It's obvious that their sound from the get-go is alternative hip hop. Something more along the lines of RnB/pop/funk. They even knew that which is why they were worried about sounding too 'p*ssy' so they straddled that line. And the results were good. But to pretend like they were 100% hip hop is disingenious. What's wrong with saying "yeah, Kast are dope when it comes to that alternative semi-pop/RnB/funk rap"

u really think they were going plat & double plat on some rap chit? they weren't big enough on the rap scene to be doing those numbers. their sales were always inflated from bases outside of hip-hop.

good point about the award, but my point still stands.

people love to go back 20 years in hindsight and pretend that outkast was bone thug/wutang/dogg pound or some chit. this is why I keep my foot on the neck of their faux legacy.

Breh by your own admission you were in middle school/a tween for the bulk of Outkast's initial run. So I'm not sure how you'd have a firm grasp on their legacy in real-time to say whether or not it's faux.

You know I fukk with you as a poster but age-wise you aren't really in a position to determine these sorts of things about a group that debuted in 1994.

Well of course they were trying to be different becuz everybody back then wanted to be different. You could put a ton of ////// on damn near every act back then based on what they sampled. They used to say the same about Tribe and call them alternative. Alternative to what? At the end of the day dope hip hop is dope hip hop

Prodigy at one point was one of the best rappers out, but his fall off the worst in history

Meanwhile Andre got better with each album, and is a top 10 (top 5 imo) rapper when it's all said and done.

Big Boi > Havoc

Big Boi is the better rapper for sure but Havoc's beats were so damn good and so much better than what Kast was rhyming over (imo) that it cancels out the difference in rapping skill and makes it too hard to pick one over the other at least.

And my personal ranking of their best projects goes as follows:

Aquemini > Infamous > HOE > ATLiens

Mobb got three gold albums plus a platinum. That’s 2.5 million right there and really it’s more because Infamous was at about 750,000 in 96. Plus whatever @JuvenileHell sold and Free Agents, Amerikaz Nightmare, Blood Money and Infamous Mobb Deep.

So how is Mobb only at 2.5 million units in this video?

Juvenile Hell: 20.000
The Infamous: 800.000
Hell On Earth: 750.000
Murda Muzik: 1.500.000
Infamy: 800.000
Free Agents: 300.000 (Edit: 300K pre-orders, who knows how much sales after that)
Amerikaz Nightmares: 400.000
Blood Money: 282.000 (Although in his book Prodigy claims it went gold)

So that's 4.9. Almost 5 Million records sold

Plus The Infamous, Hell On Earth and Murda Muzik probably sold way more later on

You're deflecting. None of this is a direct response to the fact that ON themselves tell you that they structured Kast's shyt after RnB/pop to make it more palatable to casuals without it being p*ssy. They say it themselves. And again, it's obvious in their music.
