Dude I havent relived this video in about 15 years. I love the coli :russ:

This was one of the best songs ever when I was 12. In retrospect though, the over the topness of the 90s mixed with puff taking himself so seriously is laughable.

I still respect the sample he chose. as well as this being on the same soundtrack

:wow:

That Rage song was the reason I bought that soundtrack. That was like their first new music in 2+ years.

This is the same chick d who sued biggie after he died :smh: fukk him

I honestly don't blame him for doing it. Chuck would never had rapped on a song promoting drug use/dealing. He spent his whole career having a meaningful message in his songs, that's a major hit to what he believes and what he spent decades doing.

Having said that, that song is dope and Preme did his thing for sure. I love that sample but I get why Chuck was mad. Nothing he could do, album is probably diamond and its not like he can go thru and erase himself from all those sold copies. Might as well get paid.

I think the problem most had with him was he was ok at first when Big used the vocals even though he didn't agree with the message. Then later down the line he changed up & sued Big's estate & that dropped my opinion of him.

I don't remember Chuck ever being cool with it. RTD dropped in early 97, and Premo addressed it on Moment of Truth talking about getting sued for using samples is "not hip hop" I get his point but in this case I agree with Chuck.

Chuck D Explains Why Suing The Notorious B.I.G. Was "Stupid" And Why Jay-Z And Kanye West's Bases Are "Corrupt To Rap"

DX: I have to ask this follow-up: Did you ever regret at all suing over the “Shut ‘Em Down” [vocal] sample in “Ten Crack Commandments”? ‘Cause I know DJ Premier was seriously pissed at you for years after that.

Chuck D: Me and [DJ Premier
] is cool. Matter fact, that was an issue before I even knew Preemo was a part of the thing.

Remember, Bad Boy [Records] was going around saying how much money they had and this and that, and I had songwriters who are connected to me who were basically saying, “Well, the song that they’re using, Chuck what’s up?” And the fact is that the crack commandments were something that I was like okay … I don’t agree with it, but … it’s a master use, whatever. But songwriters want their piece. And they, [the song’s producers, The Imperial Grand Ministers Of Funk], said, “Well, if they’re going around and flaunting and falutin about how much they got … then what’s up with our rights to the song?” And I’m like, “Okay, alright you guys.” So, I mean, this is not no kids game, this is real shyt.

Taking [my] voice to me is a defamation of character, but really the songwriters pushed the issue as saying, “Alright, that’s part of our song too and we helped write that, so where’s our royalties? Who handles that?”

Then he blames the labels:

DX: So this was more business really than a personal issue?

Chuck D: Well, my thing is I don’t go after anybody. But in that particular case, which was coming from Bad Boy, which was BMG, which was who sued me on another end – it was like one of those things. So it really had nothing to do with Biggie. Nothing. It had nothing to do with Premier. And at the end of the day, it was Def Jam and Bad Boy, it was BMG and Universal. It was really one of those … it was just stupid.

He flipped flopped a lot in that interview but it was poor taste for him do that. I lost respect for him with that.

But see he always had a problem with it, and the fact they were making all this money off the album, I get why Chuck wanted his piece of the pie. It's like I said, he couldn't remove it, it's already out there. He prolly felt violated and figured he might as well get something out of it.

He did have a problem with it but said "whatever". He gets "pressured" by others & then sues Biggie? :scust: Poor taste if you ask me bruh.
