Where the goons end up caring for the child but ultimately are found and the coward father is in court like "they beat me and took my baby girl .. give her back ", the little girl remembers though and says "no.. Think about it, what do you think are the chances that an armed robber is going to shoot a 3 year old? I would put that likelihood close to nil, I just don't see it, or heard of armed robbers shooting children of the homes they break in. Armed robbers aren't at your place to steal your child, they are there to take your possessions. It's a risky bet, but I think if you put emotions aside his gamble may have been a rational decision to make.
