1) Pac was controversial...He touched on almost every emotion any one of us can go through...

He was political, religious, atheist, thug, intelligent, ignorant, loving, hateful, b_tch made and a real n_gga all rolled into one...

Jay Z is either a slick street hustler or a "I have more money that you" rapper, he doesn't take any chances at all...Always plays it safe...

2) Pac made that "pain" and "tortured soul" music...

3) Pac took chances and risks with his music...Dude has a legacy built by No Name producers for the most part...

Pac helped the beats, the beats didnt help me that much...

Interesting response, I agree Pac touched on so many different emotions. I love complex lyricism and am a fan of all types of Hip Hop but some don't understand to reach people in the manner that Pac did takes skill too, you have to formulate your lyrics a certain way to do it and make them potent, sometimes only writers really understand that, to connect the way he does makes Pac an incredible lyricist in my book. Plus like the brother said below, he did things a lot of people didn't, even with delivery, the way he said things connected cause you can feel the emotion. Even the way he said pain or hopeless. You hear so much in Pac, it's art.

I think some people also miss certain subtleties of Jay, one of the reason actually being his delivery, he isn't extremely vocally expressive in his delivery, he sounds similar sometimes on joints. But I feel emotion when I hear shyt like Still Got Love For You, You Must Love Me, Soon You'll Understand and others and it's high level the way he puts his shyt together, it's very tight. But he is a more conventional MC than Pac. Pac had a very different style. Another point quickly is that Pac mastered a few styles (there's that interview where he says he did) but he REALLY did, he ain't bullshyting, I've heard shyt where he's spitting like KRS and shyt, he really had styles on lock. He CHOOSE his style to connect to more people, Jay Z says he dumbed down for dollars, Pac simplified and choose a direct style to connect to his audience more, what Pac did wasn't simple though. And this is not to discourage other MC's from being complex. Someone like K-Rino I'd class as complex yet he is extremely touching, so in a sense he's kind of a mix of both. But Pac had that very unique delivery which was different, obviously had it's inspirations but there's a certain way Pac brought it that was unique.

Tortured soul music, that's a good description. I feel that. Pac helps get me through my life, I put Pac on and I relate to a lot of the shyt he's talking about. And not only a tortured soul, but a tortured soul hoping and praying for better days, so he offers that light at the end of the tunnel. It's a deep thing for the listeners and Pac fans like myself, cause he makes you feel like shyt will get better. He talks to you on such a personal deep level, by pouring out his heart he touches yours.

Pac was very different, you look at the brothers singles and you see a different MC. Dear Mama, Keep Ya Head Up, I Ain't Mad At Cha, Brendas Got A Baby , Papa'z Song, those aren't conventional singles at all. He did take the chance to put his heart and soul in the music and it paid off for him. In regards to beats I think he worked with some very talented producers who I feel, but I agree a lot of them got more acclaim after working with Pac, they weren't necessarily the big names.

If what you saying meant anything Scarface wouldn't be able to outshine Jay on a track,Juvenile wouldna got the best of Jay on Ha remix:snoop:....depends on who was out of they comfort zone and who wuznt, styles make fights:manny:.

About outshining on a track, this makes sense, styles are what does it. And a lot of others things, Busta can outshine a lot of people though he may not be on everybodys top 5.

If they did do a song together I don't think it's a forgone conclusion Jay would outshine Pac, Pac had incredible energy, delivery, rhythm, presence, Pac probably has more tools to outshine Jay if he wanted to. But Pac often wasn't trying to outshine people, he was just writing from the heart, it's a different style of Mc'in, there approaching it from different perspectives. I don't think the mere style dictates whether ones better or worse, it's all about execution, and I feel adaptability to suit the track and the emotion/vibe of the song.

If it was punchline track there's a good chance Jay would beat track, but if it's an emotional joint, or something more emotive Pac could have the edge cause of his his expressiveness.

It seems Pac's ahead in most's minds, is Jay catching up or is it still the same as before with Pac being well ahead? Hopefully this poll stays for a while, interested in the results.

Will Pac have any more unreleased material.

The people that voted Pac, do you have Jay VERY close to Pac where Jay could overtake Pac with some more dope material or is Pac far far ahead?

:childplease:

So Jay-Z's marketing surpassed Tupac's? Outside of that we don't have a discussion here :yeshrug:

I mean it depends..PAC got outshined by method man and red, but then again Pac didn't get outshined by BDK, who's a goat lyricist:lupe:

And I'm sure BDK would outshine Jay Z anytime on any song:mjpls:

I get the point though, I don't think Kane embarrassed Pac whether he had the best verses or not. So I don't see why Jay would embarrass Pac cause I feel Kane is a beter MC technically than Jay.

I prefer Pac as a lyricist also, like I said it's not always about complexity, Pac put his lyrics together very well where he connected to people hugely, that's not easy, it's a skill.

When you really get into the breathe of their music and their creativity as artist, Jay's nowhere near as complex as Pac.

I think Jay is one of the most superficial artist in any genre, period.

Jay knows it, to.....That's what that Magna Carta bullshyt is all about. To me, Jay is the most insecure hip hop artist ever.

He's out to manufacture his "legend".....This nikka is out there "padding his stats" and it's disgusting to watch.:scusthov:

Aside from RD and The Blueprint most of Jay's music has no soul, it's like the bulk of his shyt is just caught in a time capsule of whatever the most popular sound was at the time. Try listening to the beats on Vol.2,Vol.3 or BP2 . And Jay-Z is afraid to take risks and lacks creativity. If he's not talking about himself 9/10 times the song will be average or worse.

But let's not kid ourselves, Jay was a far better rapper than Pac was in his prime if we're goin off technical SKILL. But Pac's music to me is>>>>>>>>>>Jay-Z's.
