Damn this was actually a good debate I missed
....Everybody know I think Pac the goat,so of course him over Nas.....lets look at it this way, they are trained to do two different things....If you look at both of they inspirations they both do what they were meant to do exceptionally well....Pacs primary inspirations Chuck D,Cube Scarface were more about aggressiveness, the rawness and power of what they were saying over the lyrical display, showing vulnerability and emotion on record,Pac did all that at its highest level
...Nas I think Grap,Rakim,KRS are his main influences,so being poetic like Ra,the lyrical technical display of Grap, and the creativity of KRS....I think its safe to say he does all those at its highest level over his career
So I don't think it matters to say one cant do what the other cant becuz quite honestly what both are trained to do aint the same thing or as necessary for what they are attempting to do overall.....Pac cant do what Crooked I can do and wow you with a technical display lyrically,Nas cant do what Beanie Sigel could do and bring you aggressiveness and pain consistently like Sigel could(Sigel best mix of both btw but surprisingly not loved like it
).
Now to get to my point, over the course of hiphop weve seen songs that rely more on lyrical display or the creative concept of it....that maybe don't appeal to a fanbase who cares more about delivery, emotion over lyrics....but through hiphop history theres songs that DEFY that and even those fans CANT front on the song because its just that great
Weve seen songs that might not be meant to display lyrical sharpness, but is more about the content of the song and the emotional impact or aggressive delivery....that maybe wont typically appeal to a nikkas whos usually all about lyrics, and if it aint extra sharp lyrically they cant respect it
I think its safe to say if you look at both artist, its safe to say Pac has more songs in his catalogue that were able to DEFY what a nikka may require in rappers they typically listen to,and songs they typically consider great....Pac just has more undeniable records than Nas....that shyt where even though typically it may not be your thing or what you prefer to listen to its so classic you cant FRONT on it...Nas has songs like that too,but not as many as Pac
...classic songs is the end all be all to this debate imo
...songs that are classic and appeal to damn near every demographic within hiphop across the board
which artist has more undisputed classic records?
