Koncz: Pacquiao Looks Fabulous, Very Fast in Camp
Posted by: Ronnie Nathanielsz on 3/5/2015

By Ronnie Nathanielsz

EVEN as he pushes himself early in training for his May 2 multi-million dollar showdown with undefeated and undisputed pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 27 KOs), eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs) has conceded he is in “the real fight of my life.”

Boxing Scene reported that Pacquiao said he realizes the importance of what he considers the biggest and most rewarding fight of his career and that he will prepare hard for this fight.
The charismatic Filipino boxing hero said he wants to give boxing fans the kind of entertainment they want, and according to his longtime adviser Michael Koncz, he is well on the way to doing that.

After running over three kilometers on Monday and doing two rounds of shadow boxing and abdominal exercises under the supervision of strength and conditioning coach Justin Fortune, Pacquiao, who trained behind closed doors at the Wild Card Gym, appeared pleased.

Koncz told BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard/Viva Sports after Tuesday’s workout that Pacquiao, who did the punch-mitts and pounded the heavy bag, “is looking fabulous.”

Asked about Pacquiao’s desire to further improve his hand-speed, which he believes will be a key factor in the fight against Mayweather, who is also known for his speed, Koncz replied: “Manny never loses speed. If he gets any faster, he’ll get a speeding ticket,” said Koncz, adding that “timing and conditioning are also very important.”
Koncz disclosed that former multi-titled world champion Roy Jones was sending a young kid as a possible sparring partner.

“We will try him out for a day and if he’s good, we will keep him, otherwise we’ll send him home,” said Koncz, who however, couldn’t remember the boxer’s name.

Celebrated trainer Freddie Roach earlier picked 21-year-old fighters, welterweight Rashid “Speedy” Lewis (13-0, 10 KOs) and Kenneth “Bossman” Sims Jr. (5-0, 2 KOs), who reportedly uses the shoulder- roll defense for which Mayweather is famous.

Like I told most of you Floyd stans, Floyd NEEDS this win over Pacquiao to boost him up the ATG list (resumes decide where you are ranked and your legacy, not skill) and Floyd Sr. agrees as well.

Mayweather Sr: Pacquiao Win is Huge For Floyd's Legacy
Posted by: Edward Chaykovsky on 3/5/2015

By Edward Chaykovsky

Floyd Mayweather Sr., father and head trainer of WBC/WBA welterweight and junior middleweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., says a victory over WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao would be a big boost to his son's last legacy in the sport. The fight is scheduled for May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Both fighters are easily Hall of Fame bound. Mayweather has captured world titles in five weight divisions and Pacquiao has picked up a record eight divisional titles.

Mayweather Sr. is predicting a one-sided victory. He calls for a knockout victory. At the same time, he says Pacquiao could end up taking a very bad beating if the fight is allowed to go the full twelve rounds.

"I’ll tell you this right here, it would be very, very big for Floyd’s legacy," Mayweather Sr. told On The Ropes Boxing Radio . "It can go a couple of different ways. I most definitely think my son’s gonna win, I think he’s gonna stop Manny, or even if he whoops him, I think it’s gonna be a real good beating, a real good beating. That’s what I think. I don’t think it’s gonna be no tight stuff. I think if he wins, he gonna touch him up, for real."

Don't see it, not with Floyd being 38 and about to retire. All he needs to do is give the fans what they want, and that is a fight with Pac. No need to risk anything of a fighter of his calibur after 1 fight. The contract states it is a no rematch clause. Both parties sign and that is that. Remember they are not spring chickens no more and both know the risks. Rematches dilute feuds in my opinion. You know what u need to do the first fight to win, so do it then
This is boxing breh...money talks...if a rematch is in demand it will happen...they put that clause to most likely to stop an automatic enforcement of a rematch if the first fight is one sided and there is no demand

As for rematches diluting feuds...are you serious? in boxing?

I'm picking Floyd to win this fight but I'm giving my buddy $200 to place a bet on a draw when he heads to Vegas on fight night. Got a feeling the cards will be 1 in favor for each fighter and 1 judge will score a draw.

  • He sparred Pacquiao for Marquez 2
  • When you spar Floyd, it's a different level. It feels like you're fighting
  • He sparred Manny 8 times and known Floyd for 10 years
  • He never seen Pacquiao get hurt in sparring
  • Pacquiao is very open and his offense is his defense throwing a lot of punches
  • Floyd dominates after a figuring Manny out
  • He says both of them hit just as hard and both can put you down if they hit you with the right punch
  • Emphasizes that Floyd waits for you and when he does, he hits hard

Everyone will offer an opinion in this fight and that is what I like about it. I can see all of the points above except Floyd figuring Manny out. I do not really see that happening with the angles, speed and moving in and out that Pac will be doing. I do not think Floyd will be able to drop Manny as he has taken better shots from Clottey, Cotto, Mosley and Margarito and kept going. I think the volume and speed of Manny punches will be the key. Floyd is use to fighting opponents who move straight forward so he can counter with leads, Manny will not let that happen. Also Floyd figures opponents out in the latter rd when they start to tire and Manny can go all 12 rds just like he does in the 1st. Either fighter can beat the other so no one opinion is not going to be right until we know who the winner is. I am picking Manny as I think Floyd will try to test the waters out in the 1st half and pose his will with counters and leads but Manny will be the volume puncher and will have Floyd on the defensive by attacking and moving in and out. Floyd and company are going to hope Manny slows down in the 2nd half so he can counter and slow the fight down. That will not happen also. For Floyd to win, I am sorry but he is going to have to sometime in the fight sit on his punches and put combos together. Moving in and out will not win. Manny will cut the ring off since he will be the aggressor. I just want to see a good fight but I see this playing out with Floyd running and potshotting and Manny fainting with leads and punches all over the place.

MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao admitted that he has not yet fully achieved his signature speed as he concluded his third day of training at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, California.

Pacquiao’s speed was one of the key factors of his success in boxing, capturing 12 world titles in eight different weight classes.

The 36-year-old Filipino southpaw remains optimistic that he will be able to pick up his pace in the coming days.

“I feel slow, but I'm not worried because I still have a lot of time,”

But Juan Manuel Marquez knocked him out cold with less power than all of those mentioned above...including Floyd.

If Timothy Bradley made Pacquiao levitate in the ring off of 1 punch, Floyd can do damage or even drop Manny imo

I think the volume and speed of Manny punches will be the key. Floyd is use to fighting opponents who move straight forward so he can counter with leads, Manny will not let that happen.

Floyd counters everyone and is one of the greatest, if not THEE greatest, counter punchers of all-time. Manny doesnt really move his head too much...the counters will be there. JMM has showed us that over 4 fights and Bradley had alot of success in the 2nd fight as well landing on Manny Pacquiao.

Also Floyd figures opponents out in the latter rd when they start to tire and Manny can go all 12 rds just like he does in the 1st.

Manny USED to be able to fight all 12 rounds like he did in the 1st....not anymore.

You're just disregarding the fact that Floyd is by far the most accurate puncher, best counter puncher, best footwork, and most defensively responsible fighter that Manny has ever fought as well. Manny has to LAND these volume punches on Floyd and not get caught with flush counters, over and over again in the process, WHILE chasing Floyd around the ring....and we all know Manny's not the greatest at cutting off the ring.

Your gameplan for Manny is much easier said than done.

:ehh:

If Manny is gonna be forced to follow Floyd all around the ring, he loses BIG, being that he cant cut off the ring effectively against someone like Floyd and Floyd WILL potshot his way to victory.

Manny is gonna have to sell-out his defense in order to land on Floyd, and still not over commit leaving himself as open to Floyd's counters, and the key will be can he take Floyd's clean punches. If he can take em, he will be a real threat to beat Floyd because of the stuff you mentioned above ("Manny will be the volume puncher and will have Floyd on the defensive by attacking and moving in and out"). If he keeps having to restart his offense or gets stopped in his tracks by Floyd's variety of punches (which you left out of the equation), it's gonna be a long night for Team Pacquiao.
