Shooting Reported at South Florida High School

Shooting Reported at South Florida High School
By PATRICIA MAZZEIUPDATED 2:41 PM

Police responded to reports of a shooting on Wednesday afternoon at a high school about an hour northwest of Miami.

The authorities said there were multiple victims, but did not offer any more details. Television images showed students running away from the school and numerous law enforcement around the building.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Twitter that an armed suspect was still at large.

“There are reports of victims,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

The authorities asked residents of the city of Parkland, to avoid the area around Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Why not start a new thread for the 2nd shooting. They have absolutely nothing in common

My Pops Forever RIP
what kind of high school is this? everybody can public speak, sing, dance, debate, etc. :dwillhuh:
My niece is about to go to HS in the fall in Broward County. Their elementary schools are like college campuses (I'm sure it's like this everywhere but in big cities). The whole "let's fix how schools are built" argument is funny to me.

Jay Woodson dikkey, Jr. (December 14, 1939 – April 20, 2017), was a Republican U.S. Representative for Arkansas' 4th congressional district from 1993 to 2001. Named in his honor are the dikkey Amendment (1996), which blocks the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from funding injury prevention research that might promote gun control, and the dikkey-Wicker Amendment (1995), which prohibits federal funds to be spent on research that involves the destruction of a human embryo. After the 2012 Aurora shooting, former congressman dikkey said that he regretted his role in blocking the CDC from researching gun violence.

Has anyone mentioned the fact that the CDC still hasn't studied gun violence?
Congress not funding it

Why Can't the U.S. Treat Gun Violence as a Public-Health Problem?

GOP has damn near banned CDC gun violence research.

After a deadly shooting, the debate always, it seems, breaks down like this: One side argues for gun control, and the other argues there is no research proving those measures work. There is, in fact, little research into gun violence at all—especially compared to other causes of death in the United States.

The modern origins of the impasse can be traced to 1996, when Congress passed an amendment to a spending bill that forbade the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from using money to “advocate or promote gun control.”

The National Rifle Association had pushed for the amendment, after public-health researchers produced a spate of studies suggesting that, for example, having a gun in the house increased risk of homicide and suicide.

They've had them by the balls for years.

I am watching one of these kids, and he's on CNN fielding questions like a seasoned pundit or politician.....He has sound bites and tough talk...."I've been very busy in the capital" "Me and my colleagues"

I do think its dope though, this is the upside of the younger 15-22 year old generation, they care about these things and will pursue them. There were two school shootings, at two high schools by mine, back to back in my city, when I was in 9th grade, and we barely blinked, certainly didn't march on the capitol. We didn't even understand how to do those things. Or what those things were.

It's dope but how much longer do they use their knowledge for good.. I used to think my generation would be the one to change this country and instead everyone just decided to sit around and get high, play video games and spend hours on social media.
