As an educator how strange is it that they are normalizing the notion that schools should no longer be kept and considered safe places?

Have they replaced fire drills with active shooter drills?
Not replaced, but added "lock down" drills. We basically have to conduct a drill once a month so they save the lock down drills for when its cold/snowing/etc.
After Newtown all doors have to be kept shut and locked, they replaced the front door with bullet proof shyt, and put barricades in front of the door so you can't drive through it.
It's all bullshyt, though.

More to the point, I wouldn't trust half the people I work with to walk my dog, let alone to have a fukking gun on them. It's actually insane thinking.

There may not be a perfect solution that will bring gun deaths to zero, but that doesn't mean the solution is to do nothing.

The solution is to at least do SOMETHING. I mean holy shyt, we're the only advanced country where this happens and we're the only country where guns are readily available. It's not hard to see a connection.

Australia put in the effort to reduce the number of guns on the street and guess what? They reduced the number of gun related deaths.

Stop falling for conservative talking points that basically say we should do nothing if there's no perfect fix.

And rifles STILL only account for %3.4 of the firearm murders and %2.5 of the total homicides(knives, blunt objects and hands/feet account for more homicides). Assault rifles are but one subset of the rifle group.

Is there a statistic for how many assault rifles are used in mass shootings?

I’m sure the number of GENERAL gun deaths from assault rifles is low. But for mass shootings in particular what percentage of assault rifles are used?

I keep telling folks mental health issues is the culprit and not accessibility to guns.

But when that gun ban finally comes down the pike and it solves nothing folks will simply switch narratives. I can see it already.

The issue is violence and mental health instability. Shouting 'gun control gun control!' won't solve shyt. Reason being is that the country has gun control. Tons of it. People who shout about gun control never state this or refuse to look into it. We have gun control. We give less and less of a shyt about mental health issues all the time. Hence shyt like this keeps ramping up. And people think it's about accessibility to guns. You're looking in the wrong direction!

There is literally nowhere else to go with gun control except an all out ban. Anybody who actually looks into the gun control laws knows this. Longer waiting periods? More screenings? What do you suggest? Don't just shout gun control! Be more solid. Where do you want the laws to go? And, more importantly, how do you plan to deal with folks that won't follow these laws? That will be your main issue.

People attach mental health issues to just about everything but when it comes to guns it's suddenly all about 'well it's too easy to get one' and leave it at that. One size fits all solutions won't work here anymore than it works anywhere else.
You can't stop a mentally disturbed individual from committing muder...You can however directly impact the amount of people he is able to kill...Common sense tells us a rifle wielding maniac that can unload a 30 round clip in 30 seconds can kill far more people than a knife wielding maniac...

It's not a stroke of bad luck that Amerikkka owns the market when it comes to mass murder...We're number one at shooting up schools and shopping malls...Every country has their share of mentally unstable citizens...The difference is they dont make it as easy as presenting a driver's license for those individuals to obtain weapons of mass murder...They dont fight amunst each other to protect gun laws that were created with fukking muskets in mind...They don't tell their children, you outnumber the gun wielding crazy man, run towards him and tackle him...

What sensible countries do is make it difficult for the crazy man to get a gun in his hands...That is what saves lives...

the NRA doesn't want any mental health disqualifiers. they were pissed about that one with regards to old people on benefits that obama instituted and that was one of the first things trump reversed. i'm not for any gun control that takes mine away either, but they have to do something about this shyt because how can you feel comfortable having kids and sending them off to school in this country? shyt anywhere can end up a mass shooting scene.

I am promising myself not to get into this same usual gun control bullshyt "debate" today.
But I have to say as a gun owner and in a household with numerous guns
I support more and better background checks, I support enforcing exsisting laws consistently
I support mandatory gun safety training, I support increased licensing
I support prohibitions on persons arrested/convicted of domestic violence keeping exsisting weapons
Or aquiring new ones I support waiting periods, I support closing the gun show loophole, I support reenacting
The mental health restrictions that President Obama signed and Cheeto just repealed to suck the NRA off, back into effect.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

None of these things should bother law abiding mentally stable gun owners.

No this is not a "gun grab"
No there is not gonna be a wholesale ban on guns.

People who argue this way are purposely being dishonest, and they know they are.

Basically you support sensible gun laws like every human being in this country with a functional brain and common sense does...

The idea the NRA pushes that sensible gun laws prevent good folk that just want to protect their family from owning a gun is factually fukking false...I am a legal gun owner in NY state...A state they constanty bytch about being too strict...
