“I’m not a fan of analytics,” said George, who takes 4.9 shots per game from 15-19 feet, second only to Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin for most in the NBA.

“The greatest player to ever play this game was a midrange jump shooter in Michael Jordan,” George continued. “At that time no one had nothing to say. It’s about what’s best for that player and what’s the skill set of that player. We have a lot of guys who are more than capable at shooting well from the midrange. So I don’t know what to say about analytics. It works for some systems. I’m not a believer of analytics. That’s just how it is.”

He's like a 38% shooter from that range for his career. While he's not comparing himself to Jordan necessarily (he's nowhere near the mid-range shooter anyway), his critique of analytics is off because of how valued the three point shot is over a longer 2 right now as opposed to MJ's era (except for the shortened three point line years).

But if he keeps shooting at about 43% like he is this year, I don't see why he shouldn't keep mixing it up from that range :ehh:

He has a point, MJ made a killing from midrange, especially in the triangle.

However, the NBA as a whole shoots more threes than ever before, so concentrating on mid to long twos will leave you in a bind. You'll end up trading twos for the other team's threes. That's an L waiting to happen.

MJ made a killing from midrange because he was really good at it. George on the other hand, not so much.

Having a solid midrange game still has plenty of value, especially considering many defenses WANT you to take that shot over a 3 or drive

A good midrange game is, I guess, better than terrible midrange game.

But there is a reason defenses want you to take those shots lol.

Also, the comment "I'm not a fan of analytics" is like saying "I"m not a fan of stats" and should be roughly translated as "I'm not a fan of any new information that suggests I'm not as good as I think I am".

He just wants tor rationalize reasons to continue shooting inefficiently and pretending he's Jordan from mid range. George needs to restrict his shooting mainly to 3s, period.

The greatest player ever was living in the paint and eating good at the free throw line. Someone roll up highlight reels of a young MJ for this fool. :babyrose:

Knocking down stripper thots without a condom is definitely not analytical. :lolbron:

Quoted for emphasis.

I still think there's value in the mid-range shot. Teams like the Rockets become predictable because everyone's either around the three point line or at the rim. No in between.

So are the Warriors.

The Warriors are a glitch in the system because of Steph. They'll step off the line and take mid-range jumpers if that's what there too.

Houston players seem afraid to.
