As far as the NBA is concerned, a lot of these fanbases and franchises are desperate to win, so they assume that signing or trading for older, experienced stars will somehow lead them closer to a championship because the keyword is experience.

In the Sixers' case, the fans thought PG, on paper, would be an immediate upgrade over Tobias Harris, and based on PG's resume of being a star and having seasons/postseasons of elite performances compared to Harris it seemed like a win.

In PG's defense, and to some extent Embiid, both of them came into the season injured, so I wouldn't say either one of them is washed. Paul George is still capable of averaging 18-20ppg, and Embiid can still have dominant performances; as we saw last week, he had a triple-double. This season just wasn't their year; it was a disaster since October; I expect them to be better next season.
It wasn't just fans. After the FA period, every outlet listed Philly as winners of Free Agency with the moves they made

no expectations but almost ten games better than his last team with "expectations"

y'all don't know hoop
It's a difference between playing on a team competing on a team playing for a play-in spot and one with championship aspirations. We've seen what he can do when playing on those types of teams and it's not pretty.

Don't play dumb breh. You know what I meant.

And Philly fans were talking shyt about how they're better than The Knicks after Paul signed with The Sixers. :heh:
Fans tend to get caught up in big name acquisitions and completely overlook father time.

Happens every single year.

The Larry Holmes Gardens is always bringing in new tenants

Both of these dudes STAY injured though. Embiid might need another knee surgery.

Always injured+older vs. washed:
