He kind of screwed the FO by letting it be know he wanted to go to the Lakers.

If he had informed them privately they could have gotten more but teams knew they might just be getting a rental so they wouldn't offer up too much for him.

Regardless, Indiana could have gotten more than Oladipo and no picks.

Indiana was taking offers on George last season before the trade deadline. George publicly made it clear that he was upset that they were doing that without so much as giving him a heads up.

Even with George's camp letting everybody know he wanted to go to the Lakers he was doing them a favor, because he could have just kept quiet, left, and the Pacers would have gotten nothing in return. Cap space doesn't mean anything to a team like the Pacers because they're not a serious free agent destination.

The Pacers front office just got all in they feelings and decided to cut off their nose to spite their face.

Not Really...

Ended up being a wash for them and they still didn't get back as much as they could have :yeshrug:

We'll also see if Vic Oladipo can sustain his play or if its an anomaly next year.

A wash for them? :dahell:

They traded away a 27yo star who was gonna leave anyway for a 25yo star and a 21yo double-double machine and will win 6-8 more games than they did last year. :heh:

And both the new guys are locked down for the next 2-3 years at combined 2/3 the salary of what it would have cost to pay the old guy. :win:

1. Could be anomaly
2. Paul George had them as 2 seed and ECF with a roster around him at their peak and I don't see that happening with Vic
3. Still waited to late to trade him to maximize returns

So yeah, its a wash.

Question...

What sort of similar anomalies do we have to reference to say Vic could fall into that categories?

Vic's numbers every year prior.

And we're talking a 5th seed in the Eastern Conference so if this is the peak then.....

I mean..every one becomes a contributor to whatever degree they do in their own time...that's how it goes. Some nikkax need the space & opportunity I can't recall a perimeter player burn bright leading his squad to the playoffs along the way only to fizzle out...anything is possible

I could see Vic regressing back to 53 TS% and the Pacers being something like a 8th seed and :yeshrug:

They saved money but if they don't draft well then its meaningless and we're essentially boasting about a treadmill team.
The goal should be to at least replicate where PG had them when he peaked.
