Kids from higher income families have better diets. They grow taller.....average NBA player is like 6'6" or 6'7" which is basically the 99th+ percentile for height. 6'9" dad with a 5'9"-ish mom increases your odds of making the league dramatically.

Part of it though Art is that these kids arent growing up playing tough pickup ball in the parks, playgrounds or driveways like that anymore. They barely go outside at all with all the tech they got to distract them

Long gone are the days of me memorizing my friends home phone numbers as a kid to organize 3 on 3 round Robins where a foul had to impede play completely to be called without getting flak from people and being called soft. If someone jumped into you on a shot for a foul that wouldnt be respected. No offensive fouls are being called unless it's completely egregious and bordering on assault. Physicality was a necessity and jump shooting came into play when either defenses broke down or people were too fatigued to continue relentlessly driving to the bucket. The best shot was the closest shot to the rim, typically from the box because of the angle to bank. Absolutely none of that is occurring on the level it used to, and especially not with players that are actively seeking to become a professional player.

From this topic to others we can all postulate whether or not the old way of doing things are objectively better than the new way of doing things but its indisputable that it is different. Most of us got broken down bodies from all the miles we logged on our tires in one form or fashion and to what end was it for ultimately? Short term satisfaction? Who knows.
