Im a Penny Stan but I will try and fairly assess without bias

Not sure if he was healthy he would have been better than the Magic, Kidd's and Paytons as a pure point guard goes but I think he would have been in the conversation after

Another thing you have to consider is by his fourth year they were experimenting with him at the 2 guard and 1 so you probably end of having less assists.

The frustrating part was Penny often was comfortabe as a playmaker and when he finally asserted himself as a scoring guard in the 97 playoffs and the 97-98 season start thats exactly when the minescus got even worse from the misdiagnosed first operation so we literally never knew or saw Penny at elite aside from what we saw before. Times where he did remind you of old Penny (second half of the 99 season an 99-00 he was still injured or start of 01-02 season he was doing all that one leg)

But as far as what he was doing in the league a playmaker with that size, sure there was Magic, Oscar even J Rose and Steve Smith. But the athletiscm, explosive and post game along with a developing shot ws different. Could rebound and block shots like a 3 when he was on So its not crazy to say talentwise he would have been up there

I think he would have been top 10 PG and I maybe a Top 10 SG

Wherever you have Allen Iverson who also played both guard postions I would Penny just below that. He definetly would have been top 50, definetly maybe 25 and top 15. I think the only reason he wouldnt have in GOAT convos was post Shaq he'd have to carry a lot of load and theres no guarantee wherever he went or stayed he'd have won a title.

Kyrie and Chris Paul are more talented than Penny.

Penny had height, but height isnt a skill and he was a bit weak/fragile for his height. Wasnt nearly the defender Chris Paul is and Chris paul runs an offense a lil bit better than Penny. Not the handles or shot maker Kyrie is but he definitely ran an offense better than Kyrie. Only shot the three at 32% during the shortened line years 94-97. He has a great demeanor and smooth game for sure though. Definitely one of the great "what if's" of basketball.

And @Swagnificent, lets be real here, he was only seen as a threat to the Bulls because Shaq was there :heh:

Positions aside, Paul George (6'8 point forward) is a better basketball player than Penny Hardaway (6'7 point guard) ever was right?

Better scorer, better shooter, better defender, better rebounder.. everything but facilitating and having Chris Rock as a mascot?

It says most talented PG ever.

Talk to me about Magic's ball handling, triple threat and footwork, jumpshooting, athleticism, defense.

Magic isn't the most talented point guard ever he's the most physically gifted and he's the best passer and had the best teams.

Magic had arguably the greatest vision ever that’s talent
He was 6’9 with a legit handle behind the back, spin moves, in and outs. This was the 80’s he was the only player with that height handling the rock like that(besides bird). Magic’s post game was a blend between worthy and Kareem. His footwork may not have been as fancy but he was much better on the block, you had no choice but to double magic on the block he was that effective. He was a great rebounder, that takes skill. One of the best at playing the passing lanes. Magic was so nice and so skilled that at 36 with 5 years off he was able to comeback mid season and average 14 6 and 7 off the bench, in under 30 minutes of game play.

DO YOU REALIZE HOW NICE YOU HAVE TO BE TO COME BACK AFTER 5 years
At the age of 36, 25 lbs heavier than your prime weight and still average 14 7 and 7

penny was nice but magic is on the goat tier only a handful of players matched his talent, skill, and dominance.

it’s a sad day when hoop fans are trying to downplay magic.

More talented than Chris Paul?

Elite shooter, elite playmaker and vision, elite defender, elite athleticism back in the day, unstoppable mid range jumper. He had everything :whew:

Prime CP3 is better at basketball than prime Curry. If the league never vetoed that trade he would have multiple rings and nobody would argue about it :yeshrug:

DRose most definitely isn't the most gifted PG. This is my problem with TheColi. You nikkas confuse elite athleticism pretty games with elite skill.

Rose was most definitely the most athletically gifted Point Guard in NBA history, CP3 is the most skilled by a wide margin, and the actual most talented is...honestly hard to determine. Honestly, it'd probably be J Kidd or maybe someone like Ja Morant.

I've never heard such brain dead sports evaluation. 100 on this, basically athleticism is the equivalent of talent on here, and being uber "skilled" makes you better than everybody regardless of what results you put on the table...

It's a results based business, everything else has a place too, but everything else comes second. The way this board pumps up Rose, Mac, and Vince particularly is embarrassing, we all know there isn't a single place anywhere on the web besides maybe Laker fan sites, that boosts Kobe the way he is on here, but at least he's more deserving than all the other cats they throw in the mix here...

I disagree with Rose being "the" most athletic point I've seen. He's def on the short list, but Wall and Westbrook are on there too. As far as his ceiling, he had a high ceiling and the sky was the limit. As it is, the best we saw of him isn't far removed from the best we saw of Westbrook or Dame or a number of other guys. I've never been all that convinced Rose would just take over the NBA, his MVP year was his peak and we was less dominant than any recent MVP I can think of...

How about All The Smoke? Or the Knuckleheads Podcast?

Basically any platform that features NBA players or mostly black men discussing basketball talks about Kobe the way we do.

Looks to me that you just view websites and podcasts featuring white men talking basketball if you think we somehow are boosting Kobe on this site. Our views are in line with those of the average black male sports fan. Your views are in line with the average white male sports fan.
