People are mad at Andrew Sullivan for saying 70% of African-American kids don't have fathers

Every time there is a shooting in my city people are saying we need more male guidance and fathers in our community
Every time someone brings up this 70% stat people claim all black men have relationships with their kids and the marriage/two parent household numbers don’t matter
Which one is it

Of course this could be a community to community issue so we can only speak on our own experiences
Based off the amount of black men in jail and the poverty stats in various black communities I feel like this is more serious an issue than ppl want to admit

Its a two fold. The neighborhoods are flooded with guns and drugs. There are less jobs (actually job deserts) and very few activities for school age children.

I travel outside the country to work and see the same thing. I work in Mexico where there is so much violence it makes the shyt in america look like a joke. You know what the common denominator is? Lack of jobs, communities filled with drugs and guns and lack of activities for young men. Fathers are in the home in these communities yet there is constant shootings and murders. Mass shootings at malls, at restaurants at movie theaters and on and on and on.

I travel to india and there is less violence even though there is less jobs and activities for children. You know why there is less violence? You can't get a gun and there is extremely limited access to getting or selling dope.

Out of wedlock births are an issue throughout the diaspora, but that does not mean fathers are not present.

Also, even if the father and the mother are around, but they are not together...they are still technically single parents...unless one of them gets married.

That's because it's not a problem, the average white Male with no degree makes 80k, and single white women are around 90k so being a single parents doesnt affect then as much because they still have good finances

Isn't the answer obvious. 30% vs 70%...

Children born out of wedlock are at a disadvantage in multiple ways in this country, especially economically. The issue isn't that black fathers aren't raising their kids - that's bullshyt, black fathers are very active. The issue is that broken homes produce broken children who don't have as much economic stability as children born in wedlock.

Sullivan has been dabbling in racial IQ fukkery for awhile so you know his views on black people are suspect.

Once again people cite stats, but they don't know what they are trying to say. Every time there are mass shootings we usually learn that the White kid had mother and father in their home, but nobody ever says that those fuggers needed more male guidance. So clearly a father being married to a mother is not a deterrent to shyt.

The real issue is does the father have an impact in the lives of the children. I see Black fathers with their children all the time. All you have to do is go to youth sporting events and you will see Black fathers out there with their little sons and daughters. I don't know if the fathers are married to the children mothers, but the fact that the children are spending time with their fathers is a positive thing.
