Senators on Capitol Hill are back to negotiating Monday morning after running into a partisan wall Sunday night over a nearly $2 trillion coronavirus relief bill. Republicans say they've already made big concessions, with some calling the bill "unemployment insurance on steroids," but Democrats say there are not enough protections for workers and are upset about what they're calling a new "slush fund" in the bill. Nancy Cordes breaks down what the proposed legislation would do.

Everywhere...You never there.
I’m more scared of this than the actual virus. People being forced to stay home and out of work, no money for food or necessities, CDC staying stock up because they assume everyone has the money for it and people really don’t. More people could possibly starve to death or end up on the streets (I understand there’s supposed to be an eviction freeze, but landlords can’t be trusted) than die from the virus and it’s like nobody cares. Telling poor people to just ‘work from home’ and ‘stock up.’ Might as well tell them to just roll over and die.

Well said .

Senate leaders and Trump administration officials are resuming talks Monday morning on a giant stimulus bill aimed at propping up an economy hard-hit by the coronavirus, after weekend negotiations failed to produce a deal. Senate Democrats voted Sunday evening to block the bill from advancing, infuriating Republicans. Democrats have alleged the bill does too much to help prop up businesses without directing enough money to households, hospitals and health professionals.

So democrats blocked this bill because they think the checks for households are too low? I mean if the difference is a few hundred then democrats can fukk off.

Under the Republican plan this will happen:
  • Somebody can be still employed & making $72,000/year gets $1,200
  • Somebody poor who has been laid off who made little/no money in 2018 gets a check for $600
  • In the meantime, airlines receive billions of dollars

Stimulus package hits speed bump

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., blasted Democrats for opposing the GOP-crafted rescue package and scheduled another vote Monday, saying he hoped they would have a “change of heart” after the U.S. financial markets opened Monday morning. The GOP plan, estimated at $1.4 trillion, includes $1,200 checks for most Americans, plus more money for businesses. In all, the stimulus could total $2 trillion. Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, however, said the bill failed to provide funds that hospitals, cities, states and medical workers need to combat the crisis.
Democrats say McConnell is trying to jam through a bill that would give big corporations a bailout with too few strings attached. They fear that CEOs would take taxpayer funds and then enrich themselves with stock buybacks and executive pay hikes once the panic has passed.

“The legislation had many, many problems. At the top of the list, it included a large corporate bailout provision, with no protections for workers and virtually no oversight,” Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer said earlier Sunday. “It also significantly cut back on the money our hospitals, our cities, our states, our medical workers and so many others needed during this crisis."
