TDE is the only modern rap crew that's not annoyingly self indulgent.

I hope you don't mean they are good role models. I was talkin' about Kendrick, too. I like his music, but; I could pull his card, too. Aren't Ab and Q always rappin' about abusing/experimenting with drugs/alcohol? Peter Rosenberg pulled his card about a drunk driving song.

You must have misunderstood me. Hedonistic would have been a better word.

They all about gettin' all the women, having all the fun, taking order from no one. No discipline or sacrifice.

I'm not about judging ppl, but; when you hail someone as a role model, you gotta look into what they represent.

Lupe is the closest to "role model" status, outta anyone who debuted post-2000.

Dude dude comes off as arrogant, pompous and pretentious. People beggin' and rallying for LASERS didn't help his humility. His "heed my word to your own peril" style, of late, has turned ppl against him.

Fair enough. I wasn't necessarily talking about being a "role model" but rather that they're the only mainstream crew with any substance and a message beyond how much swag they have and how everyone should sympathize their simping.

but this era is probably the most positive era hip hop has had since the p.e. Queen Latifa days. Today's rappers are arguable better role models than I can remember. Kendrick Lamar, Drake, J. Cole, Lupe, Wiz, Wale are genuinely nice dudes despite the tons of hate they get. :ld: The rappers we grew up with were way too edgy and byronic in retrospect.

A weed addicted goofball that wifes up known whores in the music business is your role model :bryan:

Not every one with money is a hero breh :rudy:

I can't really say; I don't really rock with TDE outside of Kendrick. And Ab-Soul seems to just be an anarchist.

I'm just gettin' tired of people fallin' for Kendrick's "good Kid" schtick.

":angry:I'm in the hood, I get money, I get bytches...:troll: I'm such a good guy though, I don't kill ppl or sell drugs...I don't even smoke."

I like his music, but, it's the truth.

todays rappers remind me of the typical black kid in the upper/middle class suburbs that still try and front like they are from the hood.

Just stop.

That's because most of today's rappers were raised in the burbs watching hood rap videos and try to mold it up to fit their version of rebellion with drugs, sex, and money. Which sure isn't about killing nikkas with guns.

smh at the idea of rappers being role models.. thats what makes rappers so dope, they aren't supposed to be our role models so we like 'em more.. classic reverse psychology.

Powerful post. Its seems that over the years alot of these fatherless nikkas have forgotten that.

All these critera's and standards for these nikkas, its like some of these cats want these rappers to be their own lil personal fantasy super nikka :heh:

Please point to any kendrick song where that was the message :what:

I get it, you don't want people to exonerate him from the rest, but please be factual in your assessment

Anyway, totally agree about the mainstream music being empty - party song, money song, drug song, stripper song, simp song, my life is tough cuz I have too many girls and too much money and fame song - bam! Album!!!

Westside, Right On Time

"I get bytches"

I woke up this morning with my dikk on hard
Didn't know why 'til I said fukk all y'all
Or fukk this world, or I'mma fukk that girl

So what's good I'm looking for a pedicure
Pink p*ssy that pop, preferably the kind that don't stink
Uhh, Bomb ass head uhh 'til she can't blink
And her eyes get watery you gotta pardon me

"I get money" "I'm in the hood"

Pockets on Kelly Price back when it was '95
Buy a strap and then we cock it back when it's uncircumcised
Write a rap on how we just react when shotty hit the spine
Give you dap and then we slide through your hood 3 dozen times

All fades turn into a drive-by
Part ways from the streets, after fukking with police guaranteed
Last nikka that did that died -- don't you, don't you, don't you
Wanna live where the AK, go for only 8k
Minus 6 racks, minus one on top of that
Melee, stomp him out then drug him out like a date rape
Daytonas bending every corner while they say

I like Kendrick--I got no reason to lie--I just don't like the way his "good kid" image is played as if he's morally higher than the other cats, in the hood.

This ain't about who's bad, but; you had a cat callin' his album, a "Christian album" because he had religious references. Again, I'm not judging anyone; but, don't call someone a "role model," when they're not.

Kendrick just ain't as deep as some make him out to be. But, a talented artist, none the less.
