Do visa overstayers make up the majority of illegal immigrants? Yes. However, this is the easiest issue to fix as the government controls the amount of visas issued.

The more interesting question is, let's say we could Thanos our way out of the illegal immigration issue and have all the illegal immigrants go back to their country with the snap of a finger. Would that be more or less disruptive than say fixing the border issue and giving the illegal immigrants currently in the country some sort of status that allows them to work and pay taxes with a path towards citizenship? One of these has very real economic consequences as there are multiple industries that rely on undocumented labor(think border crossers, not visa overstayers) which keeps a lot of the things we buy at digestible prices. It's why business owners get merely a slap on the wrist when ICE comes through. This current house of cards was built on exploiting cheap labor, whether it's China or Central America as long as there's a vested interest in keeping the status quo, don't expect any real fixes at the border.

Also, keep in mind that while visa overstayers may make up the majority influx of the illegal or undocumented immigrants, they still have a path towards citizenship while anyone who came here by illegally crossing the border does not.

Visa overstayers have a path to become documented through an immediate family member(parents and offspring), or through marriage while anyone who enters the country illegally cannot become documented without leaving first and facing a 10 year ban whether they're deported or willingly exit the country via a port.

It depends, those visas are accounted for by the government since the government issued the visas. Whereas illegal immigrants aren't signing papers saying, "I am Pedro, and I am illegal".
