Pitbulls and all terrier breeds are great for mice control , not as great as a cat (they can get in smaller places) but they get busy of course they have to be properly trained. Most Pitbull attacks come from abused and not properly socialized dogs that are kept leashed 24/7 and they go crazy when they turn loose.
