I love Pete Rock to death.....

I grew up on him..hands down the most talented deejay i ever heard on commercial radio

and one of my favorite producers...T.R.O.Y is a TOP 5 CLASSIC :ohlawd:

ever since i first heard him spin and blow my mind as a deejay on WBLS new york with the in control rap show back in 1989

but in all honesty.....OLDER GODS like Pete Rock need to FALL BACK on trying to critique this generation without looking at our own flaws as Older Heads

he did this same shyt last year by coming at Young Dolph with his "cocaine inspired raps"

when in reality...

some of the finest "COKE RAP' my ears ever indulged in i first heard PETE ROCK play on his radio shows.... real talk

Pete Rock did a whole show featuring CORMEGA before he started his "conscious pro farrakhan walk" ..back when Mega was trying to validate himself as Queensbridge REAL DRUG DEALER TURNED RAPPER as opposed to Nas and others...

Yo I need stacks of green either rap or cracks to fiends
It's mad trife I seen indictments trap my team
Yo deep thoughts supreme courts decievin' me
Trapped in the belly like the beast was conceiving me
Thug status yo son I'm above average
When it's time for you to die does love matter?
You ain't sharing nothing payin' that and on bail weighing nothing on scale
nikka you stay frontin'

this was one of MANY PRO COCAINE ..PRO DRUG RAPS...whatever you call it that PETE ROCK "promoted" from a contradictive basis....

i also remember if i can find the cassette tape i recorded back in 95 where Pete and Marley threw shots at Bad Boy for promoting "Versache Rap"....

saying BIG and Puff was acting too rich for hip hop and destroyuing the culture...

which was bullshyt....the real deal was HOT 97 was giving more attention and support to commercial rap via bad boy and def jam as opposed to the more underground indys that pete rock..marley and evil dee and others at hot 97 was promoting.......

which was bullshyt...because lots of Pete's music was just as morally corrupt and pro crack.........

him and stretch armstrong on hot 97 were pushing the NORE's..ROYAL FLUSH...CHILDREN OF THE CORN..THE LOX...

So i ain't Trying to hear this shyt Pete's talking about....we use to talk on twitter DM...then after that young dolph situatin he blocked me cause i simply disagreed with the OG....

now i do agree that the SYNTHETIC ...OPIATE PILL LEAN dranking shyt is getting out of hand..and yes RAP of today does play a part...

but like WAKA was saying...the OG's were not saints either.....

and what WAKA was criticizing about OG's was mostly thier BAD BUSINESS DECISIONS...

they NEVER EMPOWERED THE NEW YOUNGER ARTISTS..cause they were to busy being ENSLAVED BY THE MAJOR LABELS.....

so how can u hate on the YOUNG for empowering themselves..even if it means via illegal measures :manny:

in this capitilist society it's BY ANY MEANS NECCESARY

But it's just like i told him what CHUCK D said....

"it's not the music...it's more so you....YOU ARE GETTING OLD" :umad:

They have no accountability but they wonder why the youth don't give a flying F

It’s baffling to me how important they think they are. We didn’t grow up listening to you. You’re not 50, T.I, Dipset, Wayne, Ross, Jeezy, Kanye, Gucci. There’s a reason why the younger generation pay homage and respect them. It’s because we listened to them, it’s not we don’t respect those that came before us, it’s we don’t respect you.

Feel frustrated Pete Rock

Time are changing

They've been changing

They are ALWAYS going to change

And Pete Rock can't change the fact that things can and will change

So be bitter Pete, feel a way about it, everybody entitled to an opinion

But not everybody opinion holds weight with everyone else

It's a subjective world we live in

I would tell Pete, that after he gets out of his emotions, to realize we closing in on 2 THOUSAND EIGHTEEN (2018), -and it's been THIRTY (30), fuccin years since the 80s my G. And it's been over TWENTY since the "golden era" of Hip Hop...

Life progresses, things don't stay the same, and no one is a lesser artist than you because they don't spit how you want them to spit, so with all due respect Mr. Rock (and I do have respect for the LEGEND)...

GET OVER IT

:wow:
I hate this argument. Music change, but in this case, it doesn't change for GOOD. Pete's right. There's less substance and less effort in lyrics. I hope you like more of these suburban white kids appropriating the culture and watering it down just because y'all like hard beats and ad libs. It's gonna be like rock and roll all over again.

FAM....first off, what a way to ASSUME my tastes smh

I LISTEN to and LOVE ALL sorts of music which comes from our beautiful culture we call HIP HOP, as well as other genres, I don't box myself in nothing

I also don't shyt on the new era, the new wave, and the youngins way of thinking

I never have and I never will, the young run shyt and will continue to dictate it

You and I both know there were TRASH artists in the late 80's/early 90's

Just as there are TRASH artist now

There are also OUTSTANDING lyricists/artists in 2017, and I'm a fan of a lot of them, but yes they now exist and stand next to what you and others may deem "watered down mumble rap no substance garbage" rappers.....and that's ok breh, the world is a huge place to coexist

It is what it is, times have changed. Production has changed (for the better). Don't be bitter

The music business is literally evolving daily, and without a doubt Hip Hop culture RUNS the world

So just cuz Pete Rock and his cloth type people ain't at the forefront anymore of what? Sales? Notoriety? What? Who gives a fucc breh? He's still RESPECTED by those who know

LYRICISM is still respected by those who know

It's just not the end all be all anymore to the "hey, he's dope conversation" but fucc it

Hip Hop is a culture of ENTERTAINMENT as well, many people seem to forget this

And music is more vast and more entertaining and more well rounded now than ever, imo

So that's my whole thing I guess mane...Hip Hop hasn't gotten worse, only better, with struggles and lows and highs along the way of course, but overall we're in a GREAT SPOT breh

Things go in circles any fuccin ways fam lol and watch lyricism will be at the forefront again, give it time

Stupid fuccin argument to have imo

Rant Over

That's dumb ....

So basically your saying it doesn't matter how UNETHICAL OR IMMORAL the subject matter is....it's okay as long as your Lyrics are HIGH GRADE EMCEE HEAT?

:umad:

So is that why Pete Rock didn't criticize his friend and a artist he worked with Keith Nut of the Terror Squad who kicked a freestyle that was heard all over NYC radio when he talked bragged about MOLESTING HIS LITTLE SISTER??

:francis:

A freestyle Keith kicked constant on mixtapes and radio shows...

And please just don't say its "Entertainment" excuse

Pete is a fukking hypocrite

.smh

I swear you hip hop purists say the dumbest things

Yes that's exactly what he saying foo

Horrorcore ain't shyt we agree with but brotha lunch hung could rap his ass off

nikkas wasn't scholars and they vibed with blackstarr

Y'all excuses for nikkas not being able to rap is weak as hell.. drugs n gun raps ain't the issue the issue is nikkas can't rap and they are just promoting the life. No wit nothing clever just run down on a nikka. fukk a bytch. Pop these pills turn up.

nikkas is trash don't sell and get no support outside their circle of enablers. Fucc um I'm fuccin wit Pete. He only saying what we all feel.
