I love Pete Rock to death.....

I grew up on him..hands down the most talented deejay i ever heard on commercial radio

and one of my favorite producers...T.R.O.Y is a TOP 5 CLASSIC :ohlawd:

ever since i first heard him spin and blow my mind as a deejay on WBLS new york with the in control rap show back in 1989

but in all honesty.....OLDER GODS like Pete Rock need to FALL BACK on trying to critique this generation without looking at our own flaws as Older Heads

he did this same shyt last year by coming at Young Dolph with his "cocaine inspired raps"

when in reality...

some of the finest "COKE RAP' my ears ever indulged in i first heard PETE ROCK play on his radio shows.... real talk

Pete Rock did a whole show featuring CORMEGA before he started his "conscious pro farrakhan walk" ..back when Mega was trying to validate himself as Queensbridge REAL DRUG DEALER TURNED RAPPER as opposed to Nas and others...

Yo I need stacks of green either rap or cracks to fiends
It's mad trife I seen indictments trap my team
Yo deep thoughts supreme courts decievin' me
Trapped in the belly like the beast was conceiving me
Thug status yo son I'm above average
When it's time for you to die does love matter?
You ain't sharing nothing payin' that and on bail weighing nothing on scale
nikka you stay frontin'

this was one of MANY PRO COCAINE ..PRO DRUG RAPS...whatever you call it that PETE ROCK "promoted" from a contradictive basis....

i also remember if i can find the cassette tape i recorded back in 95 where Pete and Marley threw shots at Bad Boy for promoting "Versache Rap"....

saying BIG and Puff was acting too rich for hip hop and destroyuing the culture...

which was bullshyt....the real deal was HOT 97 was giving more attention and support to commercial rap via bad boy and def jam as opposed to the more underground indys that pete rock..marley and evil dee and others at hot 97 was promoting.......

which was bullshyt...because lots of Pete's music was just as morally corrupt and pro crack.........

him and stretch armstrong on hot 97 were pushing the NORE's..ROYAL FLUSH...CHILDREN OF THE CORN..THE LOX...

So i ain't Trying to hear this shyt Pete's talking about....we use to talk on twitter DM...then after that young dolph situatin he blocked me cause i simply disagreed with the OG....

now i do agree that the SYNTHETIC ...OPIATE PILL LEAN dranking shyt is getting out of hand..and yes RAP of today does play a part...

but like WAKA was saying...the OG's were not saints either.....

and what WAKA was criticizing about OG's was mostly thier BAD BUSINESS DECISIONS...

they NEVER EMPOWERED THE NEW YOUNGER ARTISTS..cause they were to busy being ENSLAVED BY THE MAJOR LABELS.....

so how can u hate on the YOUNG for empowering themselves..even if it means via illegal measures :manny:

in this capitilist society it's BY ANY MEANS NECCESARY

But it's just like i told him what CHUCK D said....

"it's not the music...it's more so you....YOU ARE GETTING OLD" :umad:

:damn::damn::damn::damn::leon::banderas:

You disrespected a man’s man and he fought back; it’s that simple. If we wanted these dudes’ respect they’d still have thriving careers.
I'll agree to disagree with you, breh. These younger artists come off real bytch made 80% of the time. Pete does come off harsh and reckless sometimes, but these nikkas want it both ways, and it doesn't work like that. If they want respect, they have to earn it.

I don't get it. Is Pete Rock being blamed for bad record deals? Are we completely sure that current 360 deals/streaming deals are better than the old ones?

Aren't the same execs getting paid in 2017, the same execs getting paid in the 90s?

Rap and black culture would exist without record deals. that is for money. The Rap pioneers were just selling black culture and the black story to mass media and the technology of the time. They didnt invent anything but a market for black culture

The difference between coke raps from the people you named pete embraced were actually high quality emceeing even though the subject matter wasn't what pete approved but I guess respected the craft.

The other wack artist you named promote negativity and most importantly have WEAK RHYMES and don't show respect to the CRAFT OF EMCEEING that's the DIFFERENCE between someone like Cormega,Az, etc compared to WACK RHYMES from rappers like young dolph, waka etc on top of the negativity that they are promoting.if their RHYMES were HIGH QUALITY I am sure Pete won't have issues with WACK low level rhyming trap rappers breh that's his point

...since when does skill level negate promoting the same negative influences?:usure::heh::camby:

Im tired of Pete Rock yelling at younger rappers on some "you aint what we was" tip. I remember him going off on fukking Lupe of all people cause he redid T.R.O.Y. Dude is an old HATER, I dont even care if he has some legitimate points. All he does is sit up in his ivory tower and take potshots at the youth.
He been hating,he hated on swizz when he first blew

:mjlol: Waka impacting hip hop

Half the rappers that’s out are reflections of what WAKA did years ago. 21 savage is Wakas son and he’s one of the biggest out right now.

Of course he impacted hip hop.

These nikkas do mental jumping jacks to pretend hip hop was “teaching” nikkas back in the day.

The lox was talking the same shyt Migos talking, bricks, guns, and bytches.

Pete needs to fall all the way back. Like Rae and Ghost and Meth and Red and Keith Murray and more x1000 didn’t brag about smoking dust, which I would argue is much worse than lean, xannies and all the nasty shyt these kids fukk with.

From what I’ve heard that shyt will have you hearing voices for the rest of your life, whether you quit or not. But we gonna shyt on these kids now? :gucci:

DMC damn-near drank his life away.

Em was addicted to painkillers and who knows what else.

Wasn’t Rae “sniffing” coke on the intro to Knowledge God? :dwillhuh:

B-bu-but... back in the day nikkas sold drugs, now these new nikkas use them. :comeon:

It’s always easier to criticize what you don’t understand, but let’s not act like the forefathers didn’t have their fare share of drug-abusing fukk ups too.
