naw. theres supposed to be 3 eras to a decade holmes.
early, mid & late.
I understand why that type of talk is dead now - for music at least, because most music nowadays is force-fed and not organic. they've just been forcing the same artists on us for the past 12 years for the most part - leaving the scene stagnant.
yes, nelly is a 2000s rapper. but when you focus on the '00s, hes synonymous with the early 2000s. yes, he had hits all thru the decade, even made history in the mid-00s. but his legacy lies in the early '00s.
wow. how far have we digressed as a hip-hop community? how far has the bar been lowered to the point where we classify 30 year olds as young rappers?
Kendrick & cole are old as f*ck. them dudes are like my age. they've been in the game for 10 years. lol. if they didn't marinate into something hall of fame worthy yet, then its never gonna happen breh. you comparing them to run dmc, who solidified their legacies right out the gate on their first album, at 17-19. Kendrick & cole are like 30 with 5 albums & 5 mixtapes a piece and aren't even amongst the top rappers in their weak era when it comes to buzz in the urban community. theyre nobodies with big money behind them, in the grand scheme of things.
of course jay-z didn't do anything hall of fame worthy before his 1st album. HE DIDNT HAVE AN ALBUM OUT. and his 1st album was an independent street record. of course he wasn't going diamond off of it.
I knew about the drugs at a very young age. I didn't learn about drugs thru rap. LOL.
I knew about lean, way before texas rappers made it a thing. it started in philly. I remember when people used to refer to it as LIQ. but you didn't see rappers up here, parading it around like it was a sprite(no pun) commercial.
I also knew about rappers having substance abuse issues. i didnt need social media.
I'm saying that they didn't put it out there like that on wax
only good point you made here was the method man TICAL thing. and even still, it was just innuendo. not even popular innuendo before meth blew up, as far as I know at least. but yea, good point tho. I'll still give you that one.
I know about the chopped-n-screwed movement. there were no legends that came out of it homie. you forgot about the legends part.
