Not one of those MC's is on Nas's level and Pharrell doesn't have a better average than Hit Boy. Universal Mind Control is Common's worst album. Some heat on there, but not better than his previous two albums or the one that came after. T.I.'s Paperwork, also helmed by Pharrell doesn't fare much better.

Pharrell is one of the greats though.

You picked his weakest work. Look at Lord Willin' and Hell Hath No Fury. P ain't no joke. He's had very few misses in a damn near 30 year run.

If he agrees with whoever posted, I don't think that dumb. There are a lot of people who aren't feeling Nas working with Hit for mad albums. Pete isn't the only one, lol. So if he agrees with dude, I don’t see the problem with that.

Back in 2000, he said he didn't understand why rappers would want to rap over a beat from Swizz. LOL!! He has his opinions. I don’t have an issue with people speaking on what they think is wack. That's literally what the culture was built on. Speaking to what you think works and doesn't. Nobody got sensitive over that before. Can't start now. MC's and producers have always openly done that. I can't condemn something that's a part of the culture just because Pete is doing it on social media and it's about producer who Nas likes. This is Hip Hop.

So if someone in hip hop like say a RZA came and co-signed something thatcalled Pete Rock second rate to Premier and Tip and said he lost his style and aint been good since 98 would you accept it under the guise of hip hop ?

Pharrell is >>>>> Hit Boy. The Neptunes are inmy top 10, but breh said his batting average was better than Hit's. That would include both the good and anf the bad. The five Nas albums alone are easily better than every Hip Hop album Pharrell produced except Lord Willin' and HHNF. I don't like HHNF as much as everybody else and personally think its overrated even though I like it, I don't see it as essential, but it is what it is. I'll concede to it. Still feel Pharrell as a solo producer is overrated.

Pete was my guy in the 99’s and 2000’s. I try to stay away from stuff like this so I don’t hate him. He meant that much to me as a producer.

Redman literally says that DIAD is his wackest album.

It just happens to be my favorite Redman album, after the first one, lol. But if that's how he feels about it, then that's how he feels about it. Phife said that he felt New Jack Swing was a "wack sound". And Tip got jumped over that statement. But that's Hip Hop. Common said he prefers Kanye's earlier music than the stuff he did later on. Craig G said that he felt Marley fell off after 1990 and that he was done. No one has ever been shy about calling other rappers or albums wack. The whole foundation of the culture was built on speaking on what's wack to you and what isn't.

If dudes can't freely say what they like and don’t like, without being called "haters", then damn near everybody who listens is going to be a hater at some point or another, lol. The standard for what was dope was mad high back in the day because of people voicing their opinions. If people get scared to do that, then all kinds of weak music will be made and not checked. That's not what Hip Hop ever was. If you think something is wack, you should say.

We’re not talking about Nas we’re talking production, and yes those albums —-Piñata, bandana, Be, 4:44—are more cohesive, better produced albums.

Ie Paperwork I’m not talking exec producing an album, I’m talking producing the full album. Pharrell has Hell hath no fury and it’s Almost dry. Both superior to any of these albums production-wise. Even Pete Rock has Dont Smoke Rock w/ smoke Dza

Overall the point is I think Pete (and probably plenty other producers) feel they would provide superior albums if they had unlimited access to Nas and FIVE cracks at it

Thats an artist talking about his own his album, Common saying her prefers one style to another is a preference

Saying a dude hasnt really compiled a full albums of great records in 28 years and another dude whos of this generation of producers makes "moving screen beats" is just petty man lol

That is absolutley being a hater lol

He’s 50. Idk what people are expecting. Nas coulda stopped making music 10 years ago and his place among the goats was already cemented. He’s just adding to his legacy at this point. His main fanbase is long past the point of caring about classic singles. Just give us dope music
It’s rappers out here supposedly more relevant that are giving folks the bare minimum but people are worried about Nas lol. It’s funny to me.

I can go on forever about MC's and producers voicing their opinions about which albums or MC's/producers they think are wack. It's been happening since the beginning of the culture. The point is, that's a part of what Hip Hop is and should be. That's not what hating is. Hip Hop always had checks and balances. And the legends have always been more than willing to say what they feel. They should be allowed to. We're not gonna start changing the rules whenever we don’t agree with them, lol.

That dude saying what he did about the "moving screen beats" sh*t is his opinion though. That's not hate. Pete said that Swizz was making 'cheap Casio beats", in 2000. That's not hate. A lot of people said the exact same about Swizz. To the point where he felt he had to come out and say he wasn't even using a Casio. LOL!! This is what Hip Hop is though. If you don’t like something, you should say. Just because it's 2023, doesn't mean we stop doing what's always been done in being able to say we don’t like certain sh*t.

The culture could use way more honesty. Maybe the music will get better then, lol.

It's Almost Dry isn't all Pharrell either. Kanye did 5 of the 12 songs on that album. Pharrell has Hell Hath No Fury from nearly 20 years ago.

NOTHING suggests they would have superior quality if they had inlimited access to Nas. Those tracks on Lost Tapes 2 are not better than what Hit Boy has done with Nas. Pharrell's track record with Nas is on par with Swizz.

I stand on Hip Hop being Hip Hop. I'm not gonna change my view based on the opinions of others or whether or not I like some beats on an album. It's always going to be the same for me. So even when Pete was saying weird shyt about OB4CL, which he was initially fronting on, I didn’t care, lol. That's someone else's opinion. He's a legend. He can voice that. Even if it differs from mine. It's not going to bother me.

So I don’t see the issue. People usually like comments they agree with. My question is, does Pete Rock liking the comment bother you? And if so, why would his opinion on something he's spent his entire life in, be an issue? Hip Hop is this dude's whole life. He's going to have opinions on it. Why would his opinions be an issue for you or anyone else?

That's what I'm not getting. Someone having an opinion that differs from mine means they're "hating"? Come on now. We can't start putting that kinda nonsense on people whenever they don't f*ck with things that we like. That's not what Hip Hop is about.
