These old nikkas be so fukking Delusional with their lack of situational awareness
I'm one of the main people in her arguing against Pete Rock's premise, the problem is you nikkas are picking the dumbest possible examples. Make better arguments.

What Pete Rock is talking about is things like this:

That came from the same record label and Bad Boy were the only ones doing that shyt at that time
I was waiting for someone to say this

people are posting examples and arguing about situation

but it was obvious to anyone old enough, that most songs are being sampled by the same label that already has the initial sample clearance

so in turn the artist is getting fukked ... because the label is getting paid for the original, then your same label charges you to clear a sample they already own.. then they make a profit off of the song you sampled and the song you made (for them) essentially paying them 3 times for 3 things they already own the rights to. Meanwhile clearing the sample to the label costs nothing, because they own it.

like if I'm universal records. I can just go see what artists shyt I own in 1974 and sample the hits I already have... then charge my 2023 artists the cost to clear our own shyt. Like say, the Jackson 5. You dont have to clear shyt that you already own

They didn't just sample the beat either they sampled biggie’s verse as a vocal sample on the new version too…
