When anyone brings up longevity in the game, I drop one name and it pretty much tops whoever you brought up. Scarface. Been doing it for 4 decades. Dropped classic shyt in the late 80's, just dropped a dope EP this month.

His argument for having Rakim as GOAT is terrible.

The innovator can surely be surpassed down the line and it is in fact expected that he will be as his students learn and apply what they learn from him and take it to another level, as he did during his time.

Not saying Rakim cannot be the GOAT. He certainly is one of them, but not for the reason Rosenberg mentioned.

His run was 10 years, that's longer than The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Pac and other people who are ranked goat in their category :dahell:

20-25 of hear like a Nas or Jay is really not normal, most people who go that long fall the fukk off far before that like the rolling stones. As far as navigation goes, he created the modern emcee, if that isn't navigating through different era's then I don't know what is. I still wouldn't have him in my top 5 though.

HOW? Thats shytting on LL, KRS, Kane just off top.

rakim was influenced by grandmaster caz and melly mel, and they weren't going 'skibbidy bee bop' in their rhymes. they had more weight to their lyrics than just battling and partying, like others in that time did too. with that said, I agree with rakim being top tier and a one of the greatest of all time.

naw... Question, is his catalogue better than Nas and Jay?
You could argue it is.
Paid in Full is dope. album really had bout 6 full songs. The follow-up was really good. after that ehhhh
Let The Rhythm Hit Em was amazing and got 5 mics in the Source in 90.
Don't Sweat The Technique wasn't as well received as the first three but was still pretty amazing and has two of his most well known songs.

I agree about his catalog after that.
Nobody is saying you got to put him at #1. He's not :pdahellclean:
But I understand those who do. :psalute:

Im one of those that always held Kane higher than rakim in my eyes and personal growth (i patterned my shytmore off kane) but i wont argue with anyone who got him at #1
Kane was kinda done after his second album. He fell off a cliff after that
