Good looking out on the history lesson. I didn't know SRMC went by another name...

People were still talking about that damn tornado in the 00s, always was led to believe that was what shut down Walnut Mall. Petersburg and Colonial Heights/Chesterfield always had these strong racial politics, correct?

It took a long time but the comeuppance has come full circle. Southpark Mall is a complete shell of the place it was in my teenage years and they'd probably do better shutting it down; it reminds me of Military Circle Mall in Norfolk, just a skeleton. Downtown Petersburg has returned as a viable business district within the last decade, old white dude in my building a few years ago told me DT is the most active it's been since he grew up in The Heights (Delectable Heights) in the 50s and 60s. Colonial Heights has continued to build out the Southpark area so besides the mall the area is fine, but DT Petersburg is a better experience than anywhere in the Tri-Cities now, which is something that nobody said 15+ years ago...

I think I heard you mention Pocahontas Island earlier. I remember the history being so much more appreciated when I was younger, they've kinda left it to rot now, at least when I was back in the area in the mid-10s. Many vacant lots and the houses that remain are falling apart at the seams. I went and played basketball at the park over there a few times when i was younger, the vibrancy is gone...
Yeah man....the Burg is dead. The politics haven’t always been as bad as they are now. I haven’t been back since my brother died in 2018. I have no family there anymore

I passed through Petersburg a few times in the 90s and didn't have much positive or negative to say about it. It seemed alright. In the early 2010s I was on 95 and pulled off in Peterburg to get some gas..what the hell happened to that place :mjtf: Shyt was looking like a little Detroit:francis: Mad bandos and run down motels :picard:

Although..I do remember one time in the early 2000s being on a Greyhound :demonic: and it stopped in Peterburg..hella cats just coming out the fed got on the bus with their bright orange skullys on :pachaha:

Y’all ain’t got no love for the 757? :dahell:

Man, only for The Beach, the rest of the 7-5 can kick rocks lol. Didn't you say before you from Green Run?

Nah I'm joking, I mean I ain't a big fan of other places in the 7-5 but I have friends and have had fun in the other cities. I consider myself a representative of all of VA though...

How about Woodbridge VA? Anything going around there

Ha, when I first came to the East Coast we landed at the infamous Lynn Court "projects" (really just low income garden style apartments) in Woodbridge before we moved to Petersburg...

I got some potnas in the North too, it's my least favorite area between 703x804x757 bit I have some good memories...

Va Beach, Norfolk alone shyts on Petersburg and Richmond, and that’s not including the other 5 cities neighboring :mjlol:

Its aiight, I mean it's a hyper-diverse area so alota great food. Some outdoor shyt to get into, shopping is so-so. All the real popping events and more shyt to do, you wanna be in Alexandria or DC...

One of the worst things is the entire area is heavily suburban but one of the best things is because it's only like 25 miles outside The District, it has major city transportation. Even when we moved to Petersburg, on Spring Break or in summer we'd go back to Woodbridge to see some of our friends, fun thing was there was like 2-3 bus companies, buses ran all day, and we'd take the bus to the Springfield mall or Metro and take the train into DC or Alexandria. So it was always eventful...

Petersburg was a major adjustment because it was smaller, quieter, and back then the Petersburg bus didn't even connect to Richmond (it does now). So you were kind of confined to just Petersburg/Hopewell/Colonial Heights, but whenever we could get to Rich it was always a good time...

Nah family, Richmond is easily the best city in Virginia. By a wide fukking margin too, but I'd say Virginia Beach is next...

Virginia Beach and Norfolk are pretty much the same city, everybody has family and friends in both and people in both use the stores and events and shyt in both. Norfolk by itself is lightweight but its okay, VB/Nfk together is a pretty strong city but still slightly short of Richmond...

Rich is that city, bro....and all them neighboring cities in Tidewater are ass lmao, they add nothing of significance to a competition with Richmond...

Richmond is strong because it has to be, the areas surrounding Rich like Petersburg and Ashland are wack as fukk...

I do lol but drop some knowledge fam, feel like its bout to be a 757 vs 804 thing coming soon hahaha...

But as far as Petersburg...naw not really a place you need to visit...unless you tryna get up on some VSU hoes

When I was in high school my stepmom sold Mary Kay and used to post a booth up on the parade route for State homecoming, did that for two or three years. The VSU chicks were outta this world and little 14-15 year old me was stuck lol...
