Thread should be Timbo vs Neptunes.
Timbo vs Pgarell is not even a discussion. Timbo will bury him under the ground. Timbo is clearly the winner. Just listen to "In My mind" to see that as a solo producer, he does not come close to Timbo.
This.
I missed this thread because I don't post in TLR often. I never got why even the media pushes the narrative that Pharrell is better than Timbaland. I can't even put Pharrell over Timbaland even when including what he and Chad did together as The Neptunes.
If this was about hits, then Timbaland gets an edge. He had a #1 song before the Neptunes did with Aaliyah's "Try Again" and had 6 other #1 songs in "Promiscuous", "Say It Right", "SexyBack", "My Love", "What Goes Around" and "Give It To Me". The Neptunes have 6 which include "Hot In Herre", "Drop It Like It's Hot", "Hollaback Girl", "Money Maker", "Blurred Lines", and "Happy". From 2007 up until 2013, The Neptunes were in a commercial slump. Meanwhile, Timbaland was still cranking out hits.
If we're talking quality of music, Timbaland produced or helmed Aaliyah's One In A Million, Ginuwine's The Bachelor and 100%, Missy's first five albums, Justin's Futuresex/Lovesounds and 20/20 Experience. All of those are critically acclaimed albums.
Timbaland could make magic with unknown artists just as well as he could established. Ginuwine, Nicole Wray, Tweet, Petey Pablo, and Bubba Sparxxx were unknowns, but had mega hits with Timbaland. There's also the fact that Justin Timberlake was viewed as an MJ clone until "Cry Me A River" dropped and legitimized him as a solo artist and pretty much defined his career.
Nearly every album to contain both Timbaland and Neptunes productions is nearly guaranteed the Timbaland track is going to be the bigger song.
