:mjlol:Yet somehow you still managed to list some of his most lackluster productions. Not Grindin. Not Beautiful. Not Drop It Like It's Hot-- You even posted a Kelis track and managed to bypass Milkshake... but you gonna post fukking SWV. :why:
Don't get the SWV shade. Use Your Heart is a good ass track for a showcase like this. :manny:

Flabtunes & it ain’t even close:wow:
No soul :wow:

It can be a draw, all pay homage to the legends Teddy Riley and Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis:

Teddy discovered Pharrell and Devante Swing put on Timbo....

Going to Timbo, his work with Aaliyah, Missy, Tweet, Mr. Magoo, Jigga, LL Cool J, Ludacris, Petey Pablo, and many more is a bit more diverse.

Neptunes with that same lead saw/synth, hard snare, and shakers is kind of boring. I think they pushed themselves musically with Kelis first album and N.E.R.D....
Edit:
Of course all of their Clipse productions....Virginia is a top level track....

Thread should be Timbo vs Neptunes.

Timbo vs Pgarell is not even a discussion. Timbo will bury him under the ground. Timbo is clearly the winner. Just listen to "In My mind" to see that as a solo producer, he does not come close to Timbo.

This.

I missed this thread because I don't post in TLR often. I never got why even the media pushes the narrative that Pharrell is better than Timbaland. I can't even put Pharrell over Timbaland even when including what he and Chad did together as The Neptunes.

If this was about hits, then Timbaland gets an edge. He had a #1 song before the Neptunes did with Aaliyah's "Try Again" and had 6 other #1 songs in "Promiscuous", "Say It Right", "SexyBack", "My Love", "What Goes Around" and "Give It To Me". The Neptunes have 6 which include "Hot In Herre", "Drop It Like It's Hot", "Hollaback Girl", "Money Maker", "Blurred Lines", and "Happy". From 2007 up until 2013, The Neptunes were in a commercial slump. Meanwhile, Timbaland was still cranking out hits.

If we're talking quality of music, Timbaland produced or helmed Aaliyah's One In A Million, Ginuwine's The Bachelor and 100%, Missy's first five albums, Justin's Futuresex/Lovesounds and 20/20 Experience. All of those are critically acclaimed albums.

Timbaland could make magic with unknown artists just as well as he could established. Ginuwine, Nicole Wray, Tweet, Petey Pablo, and Bubba Sparxxx were unknowns, but had mega hits with Timbaland. There's also the fact that Justin Timberlake was viewed as an MJ clone until "Cry Me A River" dropped and legitimized him as a solo artist and pretty much defined his career.

Nearly every album to contain both Timbaland and Neptunes productions is nearly guaranteed the Timbaland track is going to be the bigger song.

Thing is, Pharrell wasn't a solo producer during his prime, it was him and Chad producing those hits together.
And I've always heard it was really Chad cooking up the heat. Pharrell was just the "cooler" one/ face of the duo

Chad was more of the musical mastermind while Pharrell was the percussion and the mastermind behind the hooks.

Pharrell is great. A monster. But Timb easily wins. Even now if you listen back a lot of the Neptunes joints sound extremely dated while Timbs joints still hold up in R&B, rap, even that pop stuff he did. Timb got hits and entire albums from very different artists. Aaliyah's entire 2nd half of her career is Timb hits. Almost every Missy single was Timb produced. Ginuwines first few albums were all Tim.

Pharrell by a light year easily.

He’s been far more consistent than Timbo, can write songs, arrange vocals, produce solo, can make music in many genres, has adapted with the times, extended his reach outside of music into another industry, already in the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, has a producer of the year Grammy (Timbo does not) and has continually put our content well beyond the apex of The Neptunes peak popularity.

Pharrell is doing the writing, percussion, melodies. vocal arrangement and the beat — literally crafting the song. Chad is working on the mix, adding distinctive elements, polishing things up, chords.

But as we’ve seen, Pharrell can produce solo with ease
