Dumars was definitely on a leash while they were looking for a buyer. He had a deal/trade for Al Jefferson all set to go which was vetoed by ownership. He had no choice in regards to Gordon and V, the money had to be spent then, he couldn't hold on to it. Davidson is the reason Grant Hill wanted to bounce out of Detroit...Holiday or Lawson is not making this team any better...Knight >>> than those two anyway

At the end of the day Dumars has won a championship in the one major sport with no parity. I give him somewhat of leash. The Rip, CB, Tay, Sheed team ran its coarse, dumars had to clean house. Dumars was not going to get big time FA to come to Det, he took gamble on Gordon and Charlie V but it didnt work out. But the team is in great shape. have two quality bigs, lottery pick, and a lot of cap space. And Lets not act like darko wasnt the consensus #2 prospect in that draft. If Det didnt pick him Den, Tor, Mia some other team would have.

hell the only bad move you listed on there was Mateen Cleeves and maybe White.

Darko was gonna go that high. i personally wouldn't have picked him (would have took Melo) but that wasn't a bad move just one that didn't pan out. in fact if they draft Melo who's to say they can pull the deal for Wallace and win the championship that year? same with Stuckey who isn't even that bad he just ain't carrying a team.

Billups? it was time to destroy that team. it ran its course. the problem isn't that Billups was traded for A.I. it was that Billups was turned into Ben and Charlie but considering no free agent in their right mind that's worth a shyt is gonna come to Detroit what are you gonna do?

Dumars built a championship team off other people's trash. you wanna fault Dumars for Billups when Dumars was the one that got him and paired him with Larry Brown to make him a better player?

Its very hard to built a good team from table scraps and written off garbage. you think some other guy is gonna walk in and turn it round? you're wrong. when you're making moves and obtaining dodgy pieces you're likely gonna have a long string of failures.

He was supposed to be the next Dirk, remember? It was a fukk up no doubt but it was more of a retrospect fukk up then a clear fukk up at the time. If only them nikkas could got that 3rd pick.

Now the Daye over Jrue and Lawson shyt it pretty indefensible. Not to mention not trading Sheed no fukks given ass, when you coulda got Lopez and Okafor.

Joe D had a chance to be Red Auerbach or Jerry West. If he had drafted any of those other guys the Pistons likely beat the Spurs in 05, beat MIA and DAL in 06, beat Cleveland and the Spurs in 07. I honestly dont' see how anyone beats them before Boston comes together. And then at that point if you make the Sheed for Lopez deal you have Melo, Wade, Bosh AND Lopez to build the next chapter with. That's what great GMs do, they see beyond the moment and beyond popular sentiment.
