They had a winning streak where they played some of the worst teams in the league. That wasn't a realistic barometer of where the team was. But the fact that Rip was even on that team was one of Joe's major fukkups.
I'm not one of those clamoring for Joe's head, but he's made enough bad decisions in the past for that not to be a ridiculous request. I acknowledge that he had his hands tied during the Karen Davidson ownership stint. She was trying to sell the team and I'm certain he didn't have full autonomy during that period. But it doesn't absolve him from making some pretty much franchise crippling decisions.
He may not have been able to wheel and deal exactly the way he wanted cause he may not have been allowed to add salary to the team with it being on the market, but that didn't mean he had to load the roster with combo guards and undersized pfs. He was giving out extensions like Busta Rhymes guest appearances, and created a clusterfukk of a roster where none of the talent complimented each other.
When he traded Chauncey I was one of the few that didn't hate the trade, but preferred he traded Sheed instead, as both were expiring, and Sheed had clearly mailed it in that season. At that point point he had become the reincarnation of Terry Mills, a pf that only wanted to take shots outside the 3 pt line. Trading Chauncey instead left a major void in the roster, not just from a lockerroom standpoint, but on the court too. Stuckey had noone to mentor him on playing the position, and we see he never developed into anything other than maybe a solid 6th man combo guard because of it.
But even then I wasn't gonna kill him because of that, cause I recognized it was for the capspace. There was nothing wrong with rolling the dice on AI and kicking the tires a lil bit to see if he was worth keeping. The problem is when Joe realized he had a lemon, he took that shyt back and replaced it with 2 lemons in Gordon and Charlie V. And those mistakes were compounded by the earlier extension he gave Rip. That shyt made no sense AT ALL. There were a bunch of bad extensions thrown in there too, like what fan wasn't excited when he gave Max, Bynum, Stuckey, or Jerebko a few extra years to hang around.
Then there's the fact that he's made the organization a revolving door for terrible coaches. Firing Larry Brown I understand. nikka going on job interviews while his team in the championship, gotta go. Hate that Brown was a a$$hole too cause he's what this team needed. Flip was

, just to soft for that group, especially with Sheed. The rest of those hires though,

. nikka hired his boy Curry, fresh off of a whopping 1 year of coaching experience as an assistant. Then there was that genius, Kuester, who was responsible for that offensive juggernaut of a team, the Cavs His whole offensive philosophy came from him catching an episode of Fresh Prince and he just had the wherewithal to change "Pass it to Will" to "Pass it to Bron". I won't even blame him for Frank, if as the reports have been saying, that was a Gores hire. But the other flameout were more than enough. And you can't blame it on him being handcuffed by ownership either, as other teams have managed to find promising young coaches without breaking the bank.
I want really kill Joe for drafting, as I think he's actually pretty solid there. He has more hits than misses, especially when working with late picks. Those who want to site Rodney White and Mateen I think is just being lazy. That was his first or 2nd year and Mateen was a mid teen pick anyway. He managed to get some very solid diamond-in-the-rough picks late in the draft in guys like Okur, Delfino, Afflalo, Prince, and even Singler is looking solid this year. My issue is the fact that he seemed to undervalue some of those guys, and they ended up flourishing elsewhere. Okur he couldn't do anything about, as that was a loophole 2nd rd picks could benefit from that has since been closed. But him giving up Afflalo, he seemed to be coming into his own, for the opportunity to sign Chris Wilcox made no sense to me. And now one of the major holes on the team is a sg that can play some solid defense on the wing. His scored big with Drummond and Monroe, and to a much lesser extent Knight, but it took a while to even get to that point. Picking garbage nikkas like Daye hindered progress (fukking soft bum).
The fact that he didn't realize that it's time to get on some destroy and rebuild shyt until this year really set them back. It's hard as hell to rise from the ashes when you constantly getting picks 8-18 in the draft and you don't already have a franchise player. Joe may have gotten pretty lucky with Drummond, but he might not be here long enough to reap the benefits. It's not preposterous for some fans to want to see him gone. The reality is he been fukking up for the last 5 or 6 years or so.
