I love when people talk shyt about Philly

I love it here and yes the city has issues:
  • School system is a joke
  • Politicians are a joke (corruption, mismanagement of funds, lack of leadership)
  • It has the most wasted waterfront (so much potential on both rivers)
  • Unions have stumped the city's growth
  • Nightlife needs more work but we are stumped by old Quaker laws.
  • Women aren't the greatest but places like NYC, LA, Miami are really only banging because all the good looking women from other cities and towns flock to those places looking for opportunity. If it was stripped to homegrown then no difference....In LA if I go to Watts will I see all dimes? In NYC if im in Castle hill will I see all dimes? (yes bad spanish women but they are transplants or 2nd generation from PR/DR) Miami totally transient
  • There's no real money here in terms of getting funded for things and investments. You have to work twice as hard to get shyt popping
However there are tons of positives
  • Affordability (A lot of people praising D.C but I guarantee none of ya'll own a home in Downtown or close to the best neighborhoods in D.C most folks like in VA. or "DMV" Philly you can live in Center City or walking distance relatively affordable (NYC and Boston good luck with that if you aint spending close a milly+) Home ownership is very real here. Does it have to be your forever home? No but in long term wealth/portfolio the its one fo the best cities in the country to start
  • Real Estate $$ opportunity-Philly has to catch up to those cities so it's been booming in real estate it hasn't even reach its potential, neighborhoods getting better and more construction if you are an investor or dabble in real estate this place is a gold mine (all other East Coast city's have been tapped out excluding Baltimore which may not see this type of growth any time soon.)
  • More and more tech companies and head quarters are coming -Comcast is here and close sources say we will win the Amazon bid
  • Food scene is incredible -Cheesesteak aside our food scene is on par or better with anyone not named New York
  • The music-the music talent is unreal--major labels are in NYC and LA which both have great music scenes but take into consideration a lot of that talent is transplants looking for deals-the home grown talent here is crazy-at one point we were the center of the music industry when Gamble and Huff were in their prime
  • Sports - No better sports town im sorry it's incredible how the city rally around the teams all-year-round
  • Walkability is great
  • The Culture is great- it's a genuine city what you see is what you get. There is little wiggle room for sucker shyt you will get checked quickly in this city and word travels fast so you know who's moving right and who isn't so you can steer clear of sucker shyt. It's a big city but small town at the same time.
  • Networking here is great-----It's not saturated in terms of whatever you want to do you can do it or connect with the top person in that said industry. i.e If you want to be a P. R professional or whatever the lanes are pretty much still available while other cities are over saturated. Also in NYC and LA & Miami the "elite" don't mingle or hang out in the same spaces as other folks. Here in Philly it's not a red velvet rope city so any given place you go you can rub shoulders and network with someone of influence etc. and they can mentor you/show you the ropes.

There's more but that's the gist. To me it's the most solid city in terms of someone that is looking to launch a career or business. Great place to learn and craft your hustle. This place can be tough to live in but it builds character and drive. That's why folks that blow up from here flourish because everything else is breeze once you break out.

And Philly isn't even remotely as dirty or NYC or San Francisco. EVERYTIME I go to NYC it looks like trash day with PILES of trash bags stacked on every corner. Rats literally run from bag to bag right in front of people and ppl are so use to it they walk right by like that shyt normal. San Fran is dirty as shyt too and full of homeless people but you rarely hear ppl mention it because it's a cac town. Instead it's marketed like one of the best cities in the country when large sections of it look like the area around CJ aunt house in GTAV :mjlol:

Philly is charming IMO. Yea it's dirty and has some rough people, but it has dope architecture, good restaurants, a city culture I enjoy - there's a balance between the roughness and scumbaggery with just being real and approachable, philly leaves the pretentiousness to NYC and DC. I wouldnt want to live in philly as a working person - but I loved it when I was there for school. It has a place in my heart

Real live, if Philly had a large HBCU or two and if I wasn’t mired by expensive ass outta state tuition, I would’ve been down to relocate to that city for the reasons you described. It’s more exciting and poppin than the country ass Maryland Eastern Shore that’s for damn sure :scust: Be mad boring asf off campus unless you tryna go up the road to Salisbury for the mall or take an hour trip to Ocean City.

except it is

"Philadelphia is a diverse city. Its residents are 44.1 percent black, 35.8 percent white, 13.6 percent Latino and 7.2 percent Asian."

Philly Is The 4th Most Segregated Big City in the Country – Philadelphia Magazine

why do you keep saying false shyt?

Technically majorly or plurality or some shyt, kinda like how DC is right now since 2013. I think a city is labeled majority Black or chocolate city if it’s more than 50% Black.

If someone already stated this tho, carry on.

Red brick rowhouses means u literally went through 1 neighborhood. Go all around the city and people have whatever color brick or stucco or stone they want.

As for the OP, unless u go through the worst few blocks of North, West and Southwest Philly there is nowhere with trash thrown on the ground, that's straight nonsense. Go through South Philly, Center City and the various historic districts and the city is very clean, with a great energy and vibe. Great restaurants, great art and underground music scene.
I stayed in upper Darby on walnut street for 6 months :francis: I was about 5 minutes from university city and the zoo...even the “nice” parts of philly is trash...the best areas are outside the city...Drexel hill and Germantown are really nice looking...in that thread about a city making another city irrelevant, NY to philly should be the first and only answer :heh: fukked up thing is the ugly ass place do have a distinct charm about it...with all that said I had a 2bedroom apartment for $750 :leon: but that was in 2015 though idk if the prices went up...

im no homer, but i dont like how people barely step foot in a certain area, and swear theyre experts on an entire city.

especially when you talk women. if you've never been uptown, you shouldn't even attempt to rate the females.
case in point, theres one dude in here talking all about how ugly the women are, when hes sporting a chick in his avi who I wouldn't glance twice at.

I do agree that philly is dirty as chit.
and if youre on some tourist site-seeing chit, its not the most pleasing to the eye.

I was on walnut street in upper Darby :yeshrug: idk what side of town that was...but I drove by that school from the fresh prince almost every day...and the women on that side were :scust: philly got a large Muslim population so damn near 95% of all them hoes was covered up in that black ninja outfit :gucci: as a nikka coming from Miami and used to seeing half naked hoes in the middle of winter, philly got the wackest (black) women on the east coast :manny: Miami and Atlanta are 1a and 1b...

Upper Darby isn't even close to being considered one of the nice parts of the city. Old City, Rittenhouse Square, Northern Liberties, Logan Square, parts of South Philly are all relatively beautiful parts of a NE American city. It's nowhere near as nice as the really nice parts of NY, and as far as NY making Philly irrelevant, it's definitely a good example on an international scale, but true history buffs will always want to visit Philly, even international tourists. Parts of Philly are absolutely disgusting, but if you have money there are places to live that are really nice and on par with just about anywhere.
