Yeah it's a tough situation over all. Yes the cops probably could have stood down and dudes could have intervened but it's a tough situation to get perfectly within the current way the system is setup.

Like folks are saying cops need deescalation training and racial bias training. Plus maybe have social workers their as well.
How are you going to deescalate something when people already don't like you.
Both sides need to work on how they deal with each other.

Your solution doesn’t work because you’re ignoring the reality of domestic violence,sexual crimes ,etc
It’s “cute” to say don’t call the police until you have a peeping Tom coming to your window everynight,who ain’t tryna just peep(my experience)
What are black women suppose to do?

Black folks have the right to not like the police . Its not a both side thing. Cops have been terrorizing black folks for decades however in this instance it might not be an good example of abuse even though with better training they might have been able to deescalate this.
This thread is about calling the police on people you know.
Its anything goes outside of that..

My point is that the solutions have to fit both sexes
20ft in 2 seconds = ~7mph
average human WALKING speed is 3-4mph...
you can easily cover 20ft in under 2 seconds
We need to stop judging Cops' reactions as if they should be the same as the average joe. They're literally trained to go into these dangerous situations, keep calm, remain rational, and come to a resolve...that's why they're given a badge and uniform to distinguish them from the average person. If they can't think straight in danger then they have no business being in Law Enforcement.
WITH THAT SAID...
...all of the above is bullshyt because we see time and time again officers using restraint when the assailant is white. So they clearly know how to deescalate and remain calm in dangerous situations...they are not scared when a Black person is approaching, they want to kill you and need to justify it.
