The forth or fifth largest black city in America, where is the talent. They have had like 3 rappers make it post Fresh Prince

Beanie Sigel, Cassidy, Meek Mill in that order. in 2013, you hear nothing out of this city.

Philly, what happened?

Backstabbing and jealousy.

Lots of cats don't wanna help others get on. It's some nice movements out there, some great indie artists, but for the most part it's that detrimental sensibility that has taken the punch outta the city's scene such that it's no longer a haven for labels.

Lotta people thought Santos was that next dude to really blow outta Philly, but.... :manny:

Our hiphop scene does not cater to the current mainstream style.
Besides meek, only young dude with that kind of appeal could be Chill Moody.

This and alot of our rappers dont take rap serious enough. Most of them could care less about being signed so they only do it as a hobby. Besides that 3 of the biggest local nikkaz we got rite now (Joey Jihad, Quilly Millz, Ar-Ab) are all in jail

...yeah, or STS.

I mean, you got ALOT of movements on that grimy style. I like OBH, i fukks with their artists. Plus, I used to do business with them South Philly nikkas (shout out to Point Breeze).

That's pretty much dead now. It's a full-fledge PSP (Philly Support Philly) movement. Our dudes don't really care about gettin signed anymore. They spit just because and put out music whenever, besides they can't stay out of jail. I linked a mixtape here for 4 (well 3) of our best spittas and dudes on here trashed it without listening.

Chill Moody has a shot with the current climate; Chic Raw seems like he still wanna get in the industry

as an outsider id have to respectfully disagree.

philly has been a great example of quality over quantity

from skooly d to cool c, to fresh and JAZZ (dj's were stars then) to black though (and malik b and dice raw) to eve and beans and free and state prop.....Philly may not have had the most emcess, but they are one of the only , if not THE ONLY cities to only have only good to great emcess carrying the torch for the city. Never mind that "hot" shyt. But genuine lyricists and artists have been at the forefront of philly hip hop for a majority of the past 20 years

and thats before considering Philly's robust underground. Cassidy turned out to be a mainstream letdown, but he was a BEAST while on ruff ryders and tearing up street circuts. U got the mainstream today still mimicking that punchline after punchline after punchline bar barrage rap that philly (along with the tristate in general) championed during the freestyle dvd era...which cassidy had a big hand in blowing up. I wont say he was the originator...but he was one of the faces of that shyt. Philly got throwaway street nikkas that will rip some of these "nice" rappers that get all the props on a national level

im not feeling Meek Millz too much...philly a city of spitters and i personally feel hes taking a step back in that respect..but thats jus my opinion

But Philly made their mark to me
