Man 9th used to stay in some beef on The Lawn message board. I vividly remember Kaze and K Slack from The Thyrday having long ass threads at 9th lol. I know a lot of the early Jamla artists fell out with him for various reasons too, most notably Skyzoo

And I still stand by a lot of those earlier artists being better than Rapsody :yeshrug:

Hell Keisha Shontelle is better than Rapsody and she was just the singer :mjlol:.

It hurts that the Justus League did not take off because of nonsense. I remember hunting down every album they created including the volume mixtapes.

:mjcry:Sighs...

60,000 scanned on an Indy is a major Indy recoup for The Listening

Maybe I'm just dumb or something but isn't this the type of shyt you lawyer up for and make sure all the T's are crossed and all the I's are dotted when you sign these record label contracts? Shyyt, you can't get me to sign any damn thing without me or someone (lawyer, some one with experience) looking at it. Esp if it's some type of contract.

Wayne went thru the same shyt wth Baby and his catalog/ contract. I mean, you can't just trust ppl anymore, you really gotta look over shyt.
Just because you have a contract doesn't mean it's going to be honored. If they ain't paying them their money then they're not paying them. That means they'd have to sue which is expensive and time consuming.

de la’s situation was different as you couldn’t buy or stream their music due to Tommy boy locking it up because they didn’t want to pay them. Fans didn’t have any way to affect that.

With LB - the music is available. Yet again fan consumption, or lack of it, doesn’t get them paid.

The point is that now that artists have direct ways of interacting with their fans there is a modicum of leverage, no matter how small. An artist can say “don’t mess with X,Y,Z cause they screwing me over” and if even 1,000 fans listen, thats 1000 sales that that entity loses out on.

You can see that other artists such as Masta Ace, Questlove, etc are retweeting Phonte and Pooh spreading the word. You’d be surprised the power a few retweets can wield

nikkas signing bad contracts anytime after the 90's is a damn idiot. If you haven't learned how to read and understand even the simplest contract, you deserve to get fuxked over. I barely listened to this shyt when it dropped back then so I guess I did them a favor then and now, tho.

I listened to what Phonte had an issue with and I don't get it...

it's supposed to be a reunion album but you don't want 9th on every beat. Okay cool but then don't ask the man to be full-time with touring. It seems to me that 9th aint the easiest to work with, but Phonte has some narcissistic tendencies as well.
I've defended Phonte and Pooh on this before, but there has literally never been a single LB album or mixtape where 9th produced everything. Not one. Eccentric produced on The Listening. Khrysis and Nicolay both produced on Minstrel Show and both Chitlin Circuits. Illmind produced on Chitlin Circuit. Etc.

They weren't trying to use 9th for only like half the beats or anything. They just wanted a slot for Khrysis and a slot for Nottz. From what I understand, they absolutely wanted 9th to produce most of the album, just like The Listening and The Minstrel Show.

Which is easy to forget because he has basically all the beats on their biggest album

The Minstrel Show - Wikipedia
Definitely. I worked on the album. I don't disagree with you. 9th did all the beats on there besides Watch Me and 5th and Fashion, but just wasn't in the studio when the songs got made. But he definitely produced the bulk.

No one is arguing about them connecting with fans directly, fans don’t directly affect ownership or artists winning these fights. If your fans stop listening and it’s no longer worth pressing albums or dealing with the administration of having it on streaming, labels take it off and sit on it - and artists still don’t own it.

I agree about him never being the only producer. it's more about them wanting him to be full-time with touring that confused me. They go out of their way to make it seem like he wasnt really little brother

Since 9th has never done a full album with Little Brother, its a little funny to me that he would want to all of a sudden. It seems like they dont like the nikka lol and it makes sense since he has a bunch of NC people not feeling him

De La never had issues with Prince Paul like LB had or has with 9th. Their split was amicable and De La wanted to prove they could do it on their own and still found success. LB NEVER reached the success level they potentially had. You could blame most of it on the label, but Phonte really burnt a lot of bridges back in the day.

How exactly was it Phonte burning the bridges when he’s still highly respected and spoken of by his peers today? Who has any bad thing to say about Phonte?

Have people forgotten BOTH ALBUMS FLOPPED? That was the whole deal especially with Minstrel Show. Of COURSE they're not going to get money from it. They probably OWED the label and Atlantic. As for 9th, he got paid as a producer which is completely different.
There's literally nobody complaining about this. Not one single person has voiced this complaint. The issue is Benni B/ABB Records repressing vinyls and streams and not paying them money that's been owed for a long time.

No one is upset at Atlantic Records or 9th Wonder or anything like that at all.
