It just depends on where you live. If there are a lot of gyms around where people can get an open run then that's where the hoopers will be. If not, they'll be outside.

I remember when I lived in Augusta 3 years ago it was a 2 game wait to play outside because they had a horrible selection of places to hoop.

MAAANNN....When I was 8, I was hopping on planes, and Greyhounds by myself.

Same as you, I'd wake up in the morning, meet up with my boys, and we'd hop on our bikes and literally ride from city to city.Wouldn't get back home until it was dark outside.

My son is turning 7 two days from now.I wouldn't even let him walk up half a block to the local convenience store.

I couldn't imagine him being 8,9, 10 miles away from home like I used to be:damn:

also, we used to actually know how to fight, back then.

on top of before crack hit, things used to be incredible outside.

The Original Rec Room Gang
Yes and No

With the dawn of the internet, kids are spending more time beating off in the woods :manny:

As a nikka who still finds time to ball a couple of times a week... its not the same as when I was younger
But they still ballin.
Part of it, older heads may not know where the kids ballin at
When I was growing up, I used to go to the GYM at my school. It would be open til 9pm
We'd all be deep in there.. seemed like everyday
They would have bumper pool tables in a room. I recall a gaming system too
shyt, now I recall bringing my system and we'd play Madden or Live for $$$
The water fountains hardly worked and the water was hot, but hey.. a nikka was thirsty

The good ol days :salute:

I don't care about all that. :mjlol: @ riding around looking for a semi decent goal that actually has a net on it, just save your time go to an indoor gym. Good basketballs, Good hoops don't have to worry about weather messing up your time.

My Pops Forever RIP
I don't even hoop and I know this is bullshyt. As long as its not hot as fukk, the courts usually got a game goin on. And even if they don't, there's games goin on at LA or the Y or wherever. Motherfukkers at ESPN are the goddamn worst. Bristol needs to :camby:
There's mad truth in that piece though.

Except for Rucker. Rucker's not dying because pickup ball is dying. Rucker's dying because the quality of their league has gone to shyt. No hardwood court and plush baseline seats can hide that. It's Division 8 basketball.

and the article was also right about people only going to see stars (which I understand). Iman Shumpert was at Dyckman on a Saturday AFTERNOON and the place was lit. Once he left, 90% of the park went with him even though there was another game (and another thing, the quality of the games by and large suck, so I'm not gonna take my son to a streetball game and go "that's how you're supposed to do it son". I'm gonna take him to a real game or wait for a pro to show up. ) You're just there for the community aspect of it (and we know how that's gone to shyt with displacement and gentrification and all that) or just to smoke weed and bug out

I remember going to the basketball courts on Friday nights at Memorial Square across the street from the Toyota Center around 2005 right after Katrina happened and alot of families from New Orleans use to watch us play and it almost had a Rucker park feel and had some real great games out there..miss those days :wow::to:

Theres 1 answer any others are false.
@gator_king was on point. Outside Hoops is dying beacuse it moved inside. Not only does inside prepare you more for an actual in game feel, you can also play year round.

Add on to the fact how dominant AAU has become, serious hoopers now dont have time to play outside.

But lets be real Inside Hooping>>>Outside.
That AC keep you from getting fatigued alot quicker
