You just gotta know where to GOP and when. You can't just show up to a park or gym anymore randomly. Pick up ball has moved from outside to inside though. You can still find plenty free runs at churches, community centers, college campuses or fitness gyms but you gotta pay $$$$

The biggest reason is kids have people in their ears telling them not to play outside because of their knees. That was the most common reason it seemed at least for the college kids.

yup

I drive by playgrounds in D.C. and B-More all the time and see empty courts.. It was never like that when I was younger.. But gyms are filled to the brim all spring and summer with AAU teams at every age level, so I guess the game has just evolved to being more organized...

Air conditioning>>>

I agree,

Courts used to be packed across town here, me and my boys used to go from court to court....

Now its from Gym to Gym with the younger Gen...

wait a minute, playing on outside is harder on the knees then indoors? WTF? my knees are achey as hell nowadays and i logged a few trips around the globe playing on blacktops.

Out here in my damn drawls
I don't know about that, but I was washing my whip last weekend in the driveway and I stopped because something was 'off'; I didn't hear or see kids outside. My neighborhood has a soccer field, a baseball field, a nice fullcourt basketball court and a playgroud, all of 'em empty :smh:

A point about pickup ball is these whippersnapppers being offended by hard defense. I'm not talking about dirty plays, or flabby nikkas holding, I'm tallking legit D. When they get checked hard and denied the ball, they shut down and get all homotional, wanting to fight. The other half don't even give a fukk on D as if they afraid to pickup #6 and I'm like, "nikka, it's impossible to foul out outchea :what: :wtf: :dahell: FOUL HIM :damn:!!!, "

I'm only 22 :flabbynsick:, but pickup ball (with the younger brehs) is not what it used to be

That's true...

Society has just changed also.. When I was 8 my mom would send me to the store on my bike for cigarettes or let me leave the house at 9 in the morning and not come back until it was dark.. We were everywhere doing everything.. Hopping on city buses and the whole nine..No cell phones, Amber alerts or nothing.. I couldn't imagine letting my kids loose like that..Everything they do is organized and supervised...

MAAANNN....When I was 8, I was hopping on planes, and Greyhounds by myself.

Same as you, I'd wake up in the morning, meet up with my boys, and we'd hop on our bikes and literally ride from city to city.Wouldn't get back home until it was dark outside.

My son is turning 7 two days from now.I wouldn't even let him walk up half a block to the local convenience store.

I couldn't imagine him being 8,9, 10 miles away from home like I used to be:damn:

Meh. It's negligible honestly. Especially in your 20's. It's more mental than anything...kids think they're more hurt than they are a lot.

I play pick up ball about once a week. There are times when the court is dead and there are times when there are 60 people out there, not really sure what to make of this but there's def interest in urban areas of course.
