A year later they lost to a Spurs team that is rather similar to the one that's in the finals right now. That's insane...

Really makes me wonder what may have happened if the Pistons had drafted Melo, signed their vets to smarter deals, etc. Billups can still play at a good level today IMO, Prince is still serviceable, etc - if they were on a team with dept that allowed them to rest like Pop does with his older stars, would they still be good today?

Bill Simmons made a comparison about how the Spurs defensively are doing what the Pistons did in 04 in terms of disrupting the opposing offense

I can definitely see how that's applicable this year

Man with regards to all the "If the Pistons had Melo/Wade/Bosh" talk...Im not sure if Larry Brown would have ever played them or in the case of Melo and Wade if their isos would hurt the chemistry on passing and balanced scoring and definetly on defense.

Its tough to say, I feel like it would have been when Iverson joined the Pistons...then again Melo thrived playing with Chauncey in Denver so its kinda :patrice:

That pick fell into their lap and they still won the title the next year anyway and were in the East finals for six years.
