The rating was harsh (especially when compared to Yeezus) but the review was spot on...

Between his newborn daughter, budding sports agency, political controversies, and his equally famous wife, Magna Carta has the most personal material to work with since The Black Album. But the songs rarely go deep. On “Picasso Baby”, Jay boasts “House like the Louvre or the Tate Modern/ Because I be goin’ ape at the auction.” I doubt he meant it to be “Poppin’ Tags” for the Sotheby’s set-- a vulgar display of net worth that puts him in the tax bracket of shipping magnates and NBA owners-- but it comes across as a context and appraisal-free recitation of famous names, a Winner’s History of Modern Art.

Him an Beyonce been together for 10 years and he still treats her as nothing more than a status symbol in his music...She's no different than a Hublot or Basquiat to him on his albums...I'm not saying he doesn't love her and they don't have a great complex relationship but he does a poor job expressing that in his music..

Artists like Kanye, Common, Nas, DMX, Pac, Ghost and Eminem are able to do a much better job at this...They paint pictures of love, hate, passion, jealousy and desire...

It's almost like he views his wife the same way us fans do.. Just a piece of hot azz talented arm candy...

Like I said before, people only cite reviews when their fav artists get praised. Watch people start dissing pitchfork now that they shytted on their fav rapper.

People have been dissing Pitchfork forever. Let's be realistic. Why are you guys trying so hard to be ahead of the curve or different :wtf: These guys gave Chief Keef a better album review than Born Sinner :dead:

They gave Blueprint an 8.7, Black Album an 8.0 and American Gangster an 8.6 don't try to act like they don't know how to review music just cause he got a bad review this time.

Those reviews were off too and they were by a different person then.

Who is being ahead of the curve or different, you dapped one of my posts the other day when I said the same thing, now it's about Jay you in defense mode and ignoring the first part of the quote I posted. Had this been another rapper you wouldn't be that defensive, and again you come to the aid when I am in a debate with a Jay-Z stan, this is your third time doing this.

I don't think I've ever seen Ian Cohen do a positive review.

:scusthov: @ how much they dikkride Ye though. Dude could smear feces all over a CD and it'd still get over an 8 from them. And this is coming from someone who is willing to admit that Yeezus wasn't as terrible as I first thought on first listen.

It's going to be hilarious when the hip-hop reviews come on and crap on it too.

For them it's more political and I think they'll inflate the reviews. The major ones anyway.
