Smooth, smart, and a great play by the QB. Should 100% be illegal but it isn’t now so it’s not dudes fault for exploiting it. They better nip it in the bud quick tho

Dude wasn’t even close to sliding. A player shouldn’t assume he’s gonna slide, but they’ve been conditioned to. The only defender near him was at his side and a few feet away. I don’t even think the QB noticed because he was faking out dude in front of him.

Sliding should be outlawed in the first place. If you take off running, you're a ball carrier. Sliding never sat right with me. Nobody else can slide, so why does the quarterback get that luxury?

If he "fully committed" we wouldn't be having this discussion to begin with because that would mean that he slid.
His intentions were clearly to exploit the defense's inability to hit a player sliding. You even see the dirt from the field kick up as he slows down, plants his leg into the ground and leans back the moment the safety stops approaching him.
If defensive players get flagged every game even when they're not "fully committed" to tackling a QB who has thrown the ball or slid out of an overabundance of caution, why shouldn't they also get the benefit of the doubt?

You sound like a person who doesnt quite understand what its like to play defense at a high level. You dont decide to lay a hit when the ballcarier is already on you, you have to anticipate.
At that level you have a fraction of a second to make a decision on where and when to hit someone and at what angle. A quarterback on the run leans back bends hes knees and shortens his stride appearing to begin going to the ground, the slide is coming next. Thats when you have to decide when to lay the hit or not. You can't wait until after hes already sliding, or is right on you.This isnt madden when you just press a button to tackle. Its not all reactions, you gotta anticipate. He's giving universal signals of beginning to give one's self up. As a defender youre forced to either back off or risk penalty. Its both unfair to the defender and its incredibly dangerous for QB's who are actually trying to give themselves up.

No it's not, dumb fukk. If you pump fake, you can still get hit. If you juke, you can still get hit. A slide is the only move a ball carrier can attempt where any contact or collision initiated by a defender will result in a personal foul.
Personally I think the rules are too overprotective towards QBs, but if you're gonna have these rules, you can't allow acts like this. It's unsafe, and unsportsmanlike. Either let the QB get hit like any other player, or treat "pretending to slide" like an actual slide.

They play the game, they know the risk. They’re conditioned to assume a QB is gonna slide, but if his leg ain’t touch the ground it’s fair game for a tackle.
This right here. Anyone who is arguing that this is okay doesn't actually appreciate how difficult it is to pull up and stop yourself from making any contact with someone who a split-second earlier you were planning to drill. If you did, you would realize how cheap and unsportsmanly doing this was, and wouldn't argue in favor for it.
@The Collector, making sure the QB ball carrier is fully committed to slide means that you, as a defender, has to be fully committed to make the tackle until, what... you see him leave his feet? At which point you now have to figure out how to avoid hitting someone you were fully committed to hitting, while running full speed, and now only a foot or so away from. All of this happening in the span of less than a fraction of a second. It's literally impossible to do, which is why there's sort of an unspoken agreement where okay the ball carrier shows body language of giving up, that lets the defender prepare to hold up, and no one has to take a hit or deliver one.
This player here is kind of an a$$hole for taking advantage of a sort of gentleman's agreement.

What does FULLY COMMITTED mean to you? His knee wasn't on the ground?
Plays like that are happening at split-second speed on a football field. And they will flag you for hitting a QB who is "giving himself up" before they are actually down. So as a defender once you see the player starting to give himself up you have to let up.
