pessimism returns, Pirates are now a .5 game ahead of the Reds for the 1st Wild Card. Pitching has been inconsistent, hitting has been worse than that. Alvarez is just giving the Pirates nothing offensively if it's not a home run. They will still make it, but man I don't know if they can win the wild card if it came to that.
