I don't see how strategically individualized sales to get you to buy more shyt is some great evil. If I came to your store to buy one game for 70 dollars and you sweeten a deal catered to me specifically to get 3-4 of them for 120-ish, I'm not going to feel like I got got. And if I can't afford the 120 at the moment (unlikely) or just don't want to, then I simply won't buy it.

I don't claim to control the sale. I proclaim to control myself. In sales, what isn't psychological manipulation. Advertisement in itself is that. As is FOMO and word of mouth. That's their gotdamn job, lol! Just make my purchase worthwhile with value and content. If I want to purchase it, I'll buy it at what I find it to be worth. And if I don't, I won't.

Probably from power spenders. Folks that they see are more likely to buy multiple games at once if they're on sale. Could be a good thing.

Most feel that it can sway to be bad as the thinking behind it is that they could incrementally increase prices on the sly to get over on people.

The evidence thus far is that it's only for price decreases tho. Basically that some folks may receive deeper discounts than others rather than just have a full fledge sale. Could be good or bad depending on how it goes.

As long as a game never raises above its initial MSRP and only adjusts discounts, I don't see any issue with this.
