These were the legit surprises

Ice Cube- Laugh Now, Cry Later (I had written Cube off, a good comeback album)
DPG- Dillinger and Young Gotti (I was starting to write off DPG, but this album came out of no where to hit me hard...a personal classic)
Juvenile- 400 Degreez (I was just intrigued by Ha, and thought Id give it a listen, I had no familiarity with southern music outside of wack ass No Limit, fell in love with this album right away, bought it on the spot)
Quik- Balance and Options (I heard it was a step below coming off his Safe and Sound/Rhythmalism run, but its probably my favourite Quik album, love it)

These 2 are especially on point. A lot of people dont remember but 400 Degreez took a while to blow the way it did and was slept on for a good 2 months. So much so they reissued it with that godawful Ha remix with Jay Z and the other remix with new beat and HB verses. I have both versions. Balance and Options is my 2nd favorite Quik album. I dont understand why people hated it or talked down on it but when I heard it I was amazed at how good it was.

"You fresh to death, I'm post mortem."

:wow:

"Fill me w/ liquor watch me start a drunken rage
and write a thousand words a minute on somebody else's page
Then sell it for a million to some wack nikkas and lames
and still be killin' $hit w/ half the $hit I wrote in 7th grade."

:ohhh:

Biz Markie - Weekend Warrior

not that Biz hadn't always dropped dope albums, but I didn't think he could come back after 8 years and drop something dope in the early 00's.

I downloaded this purely because of the beat they kept playing at the beginning of the Smack/URL videos leading up to its release and I was like :gladbron: as I was listening to this. Rain is a very good rapper.
