Oh, this convo again.

I'm actually glad most people don't tip well, and I'll tell you why. When I go to a bar, and say my first round is $11, I'll leave the bartender a $20 and tell him to keep the change. He appreciates that because it's not the norm, and returns the favor by not only serving me quicker than the other patrons, but I'll typically get free drinks and shots throughout the night, the value of which well exceeds the $9 I gave him to begin with. So it's a win-win.

With restaurants, I always tip 20% even though I'm not likely to ever see a returned benefit from it because I used to be a server and know what that grind is like. I've had 10+ jobs, including now running my own law firm, and serving is still the hardest, most hectic job I've ever had.

What you guys who complain about tipping don't understand is that the margins in restaurants isn't all that great. And they're in it to make money, not to maximize savings for customers. So if there was no such thing as tipping, instead of paying $15 for that burger and being expected to tip your server $3, the restaurant would just make the burger cost $18, and you're paying it anyway. And if that were to occur, the server REALLY has no incentive to give you good service, because his "tip" is built into the price of the burger already. So he's getting his whether he refills your drink promptly or not.

That bullshyt don't work if you ain't white.

experience would be more expensive.

Thats the point I make too. If you aren't going to tip, cool. Thats on you but you can't complain and ask for shyt or be needy and time consuming AND not tip.

Like I said, everybody's coming here talking about "it's wrong' "that's foul"

And I didnt come here to debate that. I came here to let nikkas know that their better off tipping. When you're a needy fukk, who isn't tipping, you're taking time away that a waiter could be helping OTHER customers who aren't needy fukks and who do want to tip when the service is good.

Problem is, the time you spend with cheap idiots, carries over into the time that you could spend with the other customers, thus effecting your potential tips with them. SO in the end, you end up being extra attentive to the smug fukkhead who isnt tipping, and minimally attentive to the customers who want to tip well, but wont because you're always somewhere else.

:yeshrug: I can't argue with that logic, I hear you breh. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer to tipping or not though. You just can't expect to be waited on if you are shown to not value the waitservice. I for one tip generously at 20% as default. It can go up or down depending on my service. I agreed with "why am I tipping you for doing youre job" when I was a kid, but I grew up and understood more. Then after becoming a club manager at one point and going out with women in the industry, I saw things differently. Ive stood on both sides so I get what youre saying.

The difference I think people arent seeing (the rest of this is no longer directed at you) is the service industry in general. Its SERVICE. YOU ARE SERVED. You pay for the food you eat everywhere, not be served. You go to a Diner to be served food. Comparing self serve/fast food dining to traditional restaurants is bogus as hell. You have a person waiting on your beck and call. You don't get to sit down at a table and have someone ask what you would like to eat/drink at Burger King. At a sitdown, someone makes it convenient for you to not have to stand in a long line just to order food. At BK, you stand around waiting and once you get your food the service is over. There is no REAL service in fast food. You say why don't we tip at BK when all they do is add up your order and hand you a bag of premade low grade slop two feet away. At a sitdown, you don't have to get up and get condiments to your liking or get refills etc. shyt, you don't even have to pay for your food upfront. You can enjoy the ambiance and decor with your company. That is something you can't do with fast food. The cost of that convenience and decor is mostly covered by offsetting the staff pay to tipping. Everything that they arent charging you extra for is being "charged" to the waitstaff essentially and its up to their good service to recoup the difference directly from the customer. Any other business, this charge is hidden and gained in the books under the guise of something else. Its all relative. There are restaurants that don't allow tips and pay their staff comparable wages but everything is much more expensive than it would traditionally be. That $12 burger at a chain is now a $18 burger. That $21 premium cut burger at a nice restaurant is now a $32-35 burger. Plus they don't get to keep all their tips anyway, they usually have to give a percentage (tip-out) BACK to the restaurant, to the bartenders and to the table bussers as well. So if you don't want to tip, thats cool, no judgement. But you don't want to tip because they didn't do anything but bring your food then don't ask to sit down, don't be specific about where you want to sit down, don't ask about the menu, don't ask for water, don't ask for recommendations, get your own silverware and plates, go pick your own food up, pay upfront and look like some shyt you and some buddies can put together with extra lawn furniture and two cans of paint. The places that you do that at are called Buffets and Fastfood, not Fine Diners and Restaurants because they offer table-service. The main nikkas that don't tip be the ones asking for the most shyt, and that's petty as hell lol. So nah, I will tip...unless my waiter fukks up

If you guys don't like to tip, cool. Im not a server and its not my food but keep the ice grill to yourself when I walk in, cut through your line of a 20m wait while you :dahell:, get shown my usual choice table right in front of the screen:whoo:, get comped half my meal:smugbiden:, a free round of shots or a free drink when I pop in just to "check the score" of the game :sas2: and you overhear the cute bartender/waitress telling me she left her charger at my crib last night.:mjpls: while you still standing in from of the door waiting for a table still like :stopitslime::feedme: Its level to th-...nevermind. Y'all don't need any...tips.

Because he would order food, over and over again. While making me come back to refill his fat ass a drink. Changing his mind and making me pour out drinks to get him more drinks. Even after I ask him "Is that all sir" multiple times.they ar

And then after it was over. You go inside, your wallet, take out a big load of cash. Pay in exact change, THEN, you start looking for a dollar bill you don't have. Proceed to go in your pocket and take out 75 cents, and then have the AUDACITY to look at me in my face and laugh about it with the cac smirk that they give. And throw it on the table, like it's all good?

He deserved it.

Breh I sound like a broken record repeating this all the time in all these threads but have you ever worked in a supermarket? I've been working in one since October of last year...I know what you mean about these cacs....they are some annoying cornballs...every damn thing is a joke to them...from the people telling you stories babbling on as if your their friend when on the street they would cross if they saw you....so damn entitled over everything....

thats why it pisses me off with people like @Tommy Knocks in that other thread on the 1st page talking about black people not tipping and continuing that bullshyt ass stereotype that needs to be added to the phrases on the "c00n train" next to "all white people ain't bad"....

he is talking about Black people not tipping when in your very story you are telling us about a wealthy white guy with hundreds of dollars giving you 75 cents....and i bet you had other white guys like that too ....

without you asking let me guess OP...you had white women who told you need to "smile more"

The few rare times I have gotten that from Black people...it has been one of those annoying church going sunshine and rainbow "ooo chile Georgia in 1961" grandmas that thinks every young person they see is from the age of 11 to 14 and doesn't know she is talking to a 22 year old ...staring hard saying some shyt like "So Black Reign what can I do for you to smile"....but other than those rare occassions it doesn't happen as often with black people...especially with Brothers....least likely of all people to do that shyt....Brothas aren't as likely to go up to another man and ask him to smile more....not saying some don't do it but that shyt don't happen as much ...

but lol im rambling again....of course i get it....the supermarket where I work....i mainly work daytime shifts so I am unlucky and have to interact with old white people since that is when they come out the most....

even worse....the supermarket is right close to a housing complex where most of these white people live with middle aged black nurses as the caregivers.....I walk through here only because it is a short cut to get to the job....has a tiny "bridge" that is open in the mornings up to 6pm....

but as of lately ive been thinking of just walking the longer way ...no matter the case I still live close to the supermarket...but i honestly need to stop going through that shortcut....i just cannot stand the sight of seeing them and having random white people smile in my face....this must have been how malcolm felt on the train as a waiter ....

Breh no joke a week ago I was walking from my house and passing through houses to go through the shortcut....my dumbass had my uniform on....I see this old white lady with her dog and scary bubbly eyes....and thin lips.....i see her staring but i try and keep walking ahead...all of a sudden i hear PRODUCE RIGHT!!??! :wtf: :mindblown: :snoop: I'm like wtf....

I turn around slowly and say "Nooooo" with the :what: look on my face ....she has obviously seen me before but got me mixed up or something....i didn't lie....i never worked in produce....im just a regular cashier...

but i turn around and she says something like "i know i saw you somewhere" just in a real creepy voice....

I don't wanna get your thread off topic too much but trust me i get it....i discuss alot of this shyt in the official customer service thread

1. I don't know if restaraunt workers and waiters hold the big bills to the light to check how valid it is like we do....I'm assuming you guys did though....but another thing I am certain that happened with both white men and white women....on multiple occasions you got the "Its real ...i just made it this morning" corny
joke"

2.
"I'd like the NY Strip medium rare, please."

"Got it, one NY Strip mid-rare."

"Here is your steak, sir/ma'am."

"I ordered this well done! It's still raw!!

Well, damn. I shot down a waiter who tried to flirt with me once. Who knows what he did to my food in turn? :sadbron:

And you thought that was mayonnaise

:yeshrug:

I was 17. And dude was a dikkhead. Always giving a smug laugh and threw 3 quarters on the table. He got what was coming to him. :ehh: oh well.

People make it seem like its so hard to be a nice person. Even if you dont tip, because you aint got it. Dont be an a$$hole.

And even if you do have it, but dont wanna tip. Then dont whip out stacks infront of someone's face, and flip trying to find a dollar bill, only to find out that you dont have it, and then throw 3 quarters on the table with a smug laugh. oh well

what are you talking about? @hustlemania just said to me that waiters spend their money fast, and I said that at the time I was saving money for classes. Don't say "Y'all" because I'm not waiter.

No ones saying that they deserve to be treated better than the register guy at MCD, but it's a way harder job than that. Way harder.
Lol. So waiters do inventory? Food prep and handling? Sweep and mop? Dishes? Clean restrooms? Take out trash? Break down equipment like fryers and grills? Foh.
