Of course it's the exception. But what's wrong with being the exception? I know at least three homies his age from that gang alone that went to college, they pushed each other. I'm pretty sure he was the only one that graduated but you still can't say that going to college means you were never on the streets.
well it was about people questioning Plies "realness" because he went to college.
I dont think its unfair for someone to assume he may not be who he presents himself as because he went to college
Yall are both right in different ways...
Dudes who go off to college in the general college/right after high school age range (18-22) are not the types who were outside heavy like that. Sure, there are exceptions to this rule, but this is the general practice. And there's a distinction between really being in the field and going to school and selling a few drugs while in school----->the guys selling drugs in school aren't selling large amounts or focused on being lifetime dealers, and they aren't the guys who in between classes are frontlining beefs...
Had to mention this because everybody knows someone(s) who sold drugs in college. That doesn't mean they were really in the streets. And again sure, there can be exceptions to that but cats gotta recognize they are EXCEPTIONS, that whole Tariq/Power shyt confises people unfamiliar with these lifestyles...
Dudes who enter college beyond 22 though, typically go voluntarily and it's a concerted effort to do something different. And if you spent your "college years" 18-22 (or older) banging or in the prisons or all the other shyt then go to school you most likely were outside heavily. Again there are always exceptions to every rule but a dude who ran the streets and never chose school until an advanced age, this is the rule...
I'm very open on my history abd journey thru life. First thought of going to college my 23rd year. I went and took my SATs with a bunch of high schoolers because I didn't do it in high school, and applied to a few universities for the fukk of it. Only one who accepted me was Howard University for their psychology department for the 2013-14 school year...
I woulda been 24 the 2013-14 school year and one of the major regrets I have is that I didn't go. I got that acceptance letter in January/February of '13 but by April/May I'd reverted focus to bullshyt and basically decided I wasn't going. Didn't even really come to regret it for a couple years...
I actually started going to community College in Summer 2015 at 26 with no real plans on what I wanted to do, just wanted to do something. So I changed my degree path two or three times and graduated with an AAS in 2018...
I left the streets in January 2017...
I vaguely remember the Plies stuff but not all the specifics. It was always said way back in the late 00s that Plies was moreso rapping his brother's life than his own story, that was always out there. So I always had the impression he was the typical rapper, may have put a toe in the water but never fully committed to swimming with sharks. Could be wrong but that stuff was out about him when he was big...
