I have a “pookie” in my family. He wasn’t economically, or educationally disadvantaged. Dude is just a smart-dumb knucklehead that’s always just trying to get over, under or around something or someone.

This nikka was all state in basketball as a junior had offers from big 10, big 12 schools and dropped out of school a month into his senior year.

Won’t get a job at a pizza place because it’s “beneath” him.
Honestly I feel like a lot of pookies are like that. They usually talk all day about what they can do but don’t do anything…

Sometimes we have these conversations and comments like this feel like people don't really think of causes and solutions or maybe it's just frustration.
Poverty/Education have huge part to play alongside other issues but it is layered and humans are complex.

Real conversations about how we as Black people can navigate having to deal with the criminal and dangerous members of society and avoid the cycle turning into a permanent underclass are needed but...

I think this thread and line of thinking can go down a slippery slope if we aren't careful. Not saying you or anyone in particular but it very quickly turn classist and almost eugenic like. Why are you talking about Eliminating Black men? Why are we ignoring the very clear barriers to attainment that our Men face?

Acknowledging this does not negate our own personal accountabilities or that we need to make strong cultural changes either.
What’s so wrong about different classes though? I’d argue that it’s nearly impossible to have a /city/nation without classes of ppl. There will be ppl who have more power and resources than others—Egypt, mansa musa, haile salasee (idk how to spell his name)

I mean its worth a shot, isnt it? We’ve never really gone all in on the social services and education angle. If it doesnt work then we can go back to warehousing “pookies” in prisons and homeless shelters. But i suspect that giving “pookies” resources will help

In my family we have a “pookie” character out in San Diego and im not even kidding when i say that his life changed dramatically once he found himself a Red headed PAWG. He mooched resources off of her for a few months and came out that relationship talking about starting bussinesses and sht. Now imagine if breh had some education on top of all of that
All due respect to you and your family, but that doesn’t mean anything.

People get into new relationships and become “inspired” by their new partner all the time. Doesn’t mean the change in attitude is actually going to last.

What would be your solution?
Well for one, quit coddling these little b*stards.

Black men need to stop making excuses for them and comparing our criminal element to that of other races. We will never have a perfect utopia, but just because other races of people have criminal cultures doesn’t mean we should be protecting ours.

Black men need to also stop taking queues on how to navigate through society from criminals as well.

Quit imitating their fashion, lingo, culture, etc. and actually giving them a voice in our community.

An example of what I mean is how brehs on here will quote and reference pimps when talking about relationships. :heh:

I won’t front, when I was in college I was fascinated with pimp culture but as a grown ass man in the real world I’ve grown out of that.

You shouldn’t be glamorizing certain lifestyles past a certain age.

Black women need to stop fukking these men and providing them with shelter. They need to stop making excuses for their offspring when they fukk up and let them face the consequences of their actions.

Degenerate black men should be the new “lames” and “squares”. They should be pariahs and unwelcome wherever they go until they change their ways.

I don’t believe we should eliminate them (i.e. kill them) though everyone should begin arming themselves if you aren’t already.

That “solution” simply wouldn’t work because it would lead to even more death and more incarceration, but with productive black men and women being dragged into the fukkery.

My solution is the above post. We should make them social outcasts (like older blacks people did) which would force a change out of some of them.

This conversation requires a level of nuance and maturity that you aren't going to get in The Locker Room, and not many other places tbh. It's not even a conversation really, just people getting angry at and shaming folks who come with a different view from them, not realizing that multiple things can be true at the same time.

That's why this topic has been dead in the water for the past 50 years. :manny:

Happy Juneteenth y’all.

I hope we make pondering the murders of pookies and ray rays an annual tradition.
All these dudes are all bark, no bite. They been pondering the killing of "Pookie and Ray Ray" for decades and nothing has happened. :coffee:

A community police force that we all contribute to and helped fund would be a great idea, but that requires self-sacrifice and our community has a problem with that.
