I expected this to happen because paying Murray a max while on the treadmill doesn't make a lick of sense. Better to bottom out and get a real franchise changer, than keep trying to play for the 8th seed. As long as Ballmer and Lacob are willing to pay 100mm+ in luxury tax payments, you need to counteract that with a franchise level talent like Luka, Jokic or Giannis. Spurs don't have that.

They have picks from Chicago, Boston (swap) and Atlanta now. Time for a major rebuild instead of that band-aid they have had for the last few years.

The problem is being a treadmill team is part of the process of being a good team. Warriors were a treadmill team until they became the Warriors. Bucks were a treadmill team until Middlton got his weight up and they traded for Holiday. Remember all the hand ringing over them maxing Middlton? Remember how they said that would cause Giannis to leave cause no way you can max a guy like that and he not good enough to be the second best player on a championship team? Gee I wonder why nobody says that now? It's very good to go from bad to good without being average. You got to be a free agent destination and just have players flock to you like the lakers and clippers do...or you got to get transcendent talent on your team that propells you from bad to great like Ja does for Memphis. And even that can go wrong, cause Zion has done nothing for the pelicans. And even attracting superstar talent can go wrong cause the lakers haven't made the playoffs 2 of the 4 years lebron has been their AND they got arguably the worst contract in the entire nba in westbrook. It seems like people think that trading Dejounte allows us to start over and get a franchise player in the draft and then we go from bad to great. It doesn't mean any of that. It just means the Spurs stepped away from the treadmill this time, but eventually they got to get back on it.

Now with Dejounte gone not taking the 4th pick for Keldon and 9 was EXCEPTIONALLY STUPID. If your whole point is to tank and you were already working on this trade before the draft then why in the fukk did we not just take the 4 pick cause Keldon aint nobody on this team making any difference this year with us tanking.

You mentioned Jokic...he was a second round pick so we don't need to tank for that :pachaha:. You mentioned Giannis he was the number 15 pick you don't need to tank for that :pachaha:. I get your point but those are some bad examples:pachaha:

Tanking for a rebuild sounds cool. But the kings do it every year and they trash. Okc is on year 3 and they utter trash. Philly did it and in the end all they got out of it was Embiid who obviously aint winning shyt by himself. Sometimes you go sideways and you look up and your 3 year playoff drought is a 9 year playoff drought.

I hope it works out. I'll find out in the 23-24 season. You can catch me in the knicks thread this season. I don't need to see the spurs win 19 games this year and then get the 4th pick :pachaha:

I get losing DeJounte hurts, but he is a fringe all-star at best. And in the West, if the stars like Kawhi, Paul George, Zion, Lillard are healthy, he's not even close.

If you had a Timmy or D-Rob with him, he's fine. But he's not good enough to build around. This is four years in a row of being a weak squad. Time to bottom out and see what can be had. Personally, I don't like Jaden Ivey like that (so I understand it from the Spurs perspective). If I could have got Paolo or Jabari, I am with you. I like Sochan, but I wanted Duren.

I'm gonna give the front office the benefit of the doubt for now. I'll come back 2023 draft time. Scoot Henderson looks like the real deal as well. I said after the draft last year that Lonnie and Dejounte should be traded and Spursreddit downvoted me to oblivion.

Look at it like this. Dallas with Luka will be formidable for at least a decade. Memphis just has a squad of dudes (young and way better than San Antonio), Pelicans (young and way more talent. Only older talent is CJ and Val) and Houston is tanking. Spurs could have easily finished 4th in the division again even with DeJounte.

And lastly, I think they are just sick of Klutch and don't want anything to do with them. From the Morris fiasco, to bum ass Lyles to inconsistent Lonnie, to emo social-media DeJounte, get these dudes out of here.

Well, giving 40m to a player that isn't even a 1st option caliber player is probably a smart move... I guess

Wizards about to handicap themselves with the bradlry Beal contract

Rudy Gobert handicapping the jazz right now
John Wall been handicapped
Westbrook be handicapping

I'll move on.. :mjcry:

It's starting to come out that Dejounte wasn't going to sign an extension and being that he is a klutch client, it could have been some fukkery ahead

Yeah. Either give him his full max or they dipset to #Lakernation

Giving him a max to possibly continue being a treadmill team .... It's making a lot of sense
