@FAH1223 Do you have any insight?

Comments sections on these live threads are saying one of two things.

Either Erdogan opened negotiations with Putin and the CIA is behind this

or

Putin and the Turkish General Hulusi Akar worked something out

Both could be bs

All the major political parties have rejected the coup

There's definitely a divide with the military. F16s just shot down a chopper by alleged coup plotters.

I think this coup is going to fail. No political will or consensus with the military.

Also, the AKP is the party with clear majority in parliament.

The AKP isn't Erdogan and Erdogan isn't AKP. Some of his closest allies have criticized him for his powe grabs.

Plus their support is big.

Which doofus planned this coup? Erdogan just patched things up with Russia and Israel! Western leaders are quite pleased with him...

Previous coups in Turkey took place when the country was institutionally weak except for the army. Now it's institutionally strong except for the army (whether you like the color of those institutions or not). It has a democratically elected president, and youth who don't mind getting bloodied... And a divided army. I don't predict the future, but this is not a good hand for the coup folk.

*the US has no interest in such a coup, since the major issue between the US and Turkey is the Kurdish one, and that would be the same regardless.

Coups don't lead to democracy FWIW.

I''m not going to put words in your mouth, but the Obama administration just came out in support of the current Turkish government. However, his view about Syria has been the complete opposite. Would you be opposed for Syrians overthrowing Assad?

Syria is fukked. But Assad can't continue after what has transpired over the past few years.

Obama: support democratically elected government
The White House has just released a statement on the reports of an attempted coup, saying that Barack Obama and secretary of state John Kerry “agreed that all parties in Turkey should support the democratically-elected Government of Turkey, show restraint, and avoid any violence or bloodshed”.

Like I have been saying HL children.
