The Truth
We saw Cardi's record pick up steam organically with women on social media, and her whole movement was two years in the making, we saw it bubble. It debut at 85 on the Billboard. It took months to reach number one. I believe songs like Cardi "Bodak Yellow", Playboi Carti "Magnolia", Kodak Black "Tunnel Vision", Lil Uzi Vert "XO Tour Life", A-Boogie "Drowning" are real organic hits. Because these songs all actually bubbled before becoming top 40 hits.
These records like Post Malone "Rockstar", Kendrick Lamar "Humble", DJ Khaled "I'm The One" literally dropped and debut within the top 5 of the Hot 100, to me that's clearly payola and the work of labels pushing the shyt out of records.
I recently started listening to the radio in the morning again getting ready for work. When I tell you Interscope is PUSHING Kendrick's records to sickening levels with payola, that's an understatement. Here in NY on Power 105 and Hot97, they play at least 3 Kendrick records EVERY hour on both stations. Over the past week I even started playing a little game with myself where I'll bet if I cut on the radio at random on either station, a Kendrick song will be playing....8 out of 10 times I'm right. It's to the point where I really chuckle everytime I hear this dude on the radio because I know nobody is requesting to hear this music. We have our own records bubbling in the city that people like and want to hear but they don't get played at all.
BTW this Rockstar record is amazing. I don't care for Post or 21 personally, but this collab is super dope for what it is. It's not hip hop, it's a hybrid of this emo/trap wannabe rockstar wave, but it still has a really dope vibe and it sounds great no matter where you're at. I think sometimes some of you want to actually "like' these people when you don't have to in order to enjoy a song from time to time or just vibe out to it. Guys like this won't be around in 5 years so just enjoy when they hit a sonic homerun from time to time while it lasts
