Tbh, the original hook of the show was so simple but intriguing: peak of his powers drug kingpin in a lifeless marriage wants to leave it all behind to make an honest living with his childhood sweetheart. Add in the backdrop of big city nightlife at a time (2014) where clubbing was still a thing/hadn't fully fizzled out, and it was lightning in a bottle.

But that type of premise has a shelf life. At some point the MC's story arc needs to reach it's logical conclusion: either he gets the happy ending or it's over for him. And at that point, does what's left of the show just turn into typical drug dealing/war on the streets song n dance

This spinoff still makes no remote sense whatsoever considering they did a terrible job of mending the relationship.

Tommy has every reason to put a bullet in both Tasha and Tariq's head for pinning Ghost murder on him and essentially ruing his life in the process.

Ghost death and season 1 of Book II was essentially for nothing as there were no consequences whatsoever and it was all for naught and the new showrunners had to come up with a wacky way to fix it.

Not to mention the way Tommy and Tasha patched things up was so lazy considering what she did. Tommy drove all the way back to NYC to kill her, murdered federal agents guarding her like it was nothing, then when he saw Tasha all she had to say was "we family, we shouldn't be beefing" then he's like "you know what, you right Tasha. BTW I just found out I have a brother and a nephew!" All is forgiven and forgotten in the blink of an eye just like that.

Cutting cost the more seasons the higher you have the pay the actors, it’s a finesse to just combine the 2 together with a new show at a lower price
