Watched it yesterday with my kids. Daughter 10 Son 21 and we all thought it was absolute flames!!! Different take then what we expected but, they nailed giving a Predator “life” as opposed to just being the menacing hunter we all know. Oh yeah I had no idea the white chic playing Tessa had a wagon like that. She turned around in that white suit I was like :ohhh:

My wife HATES movies like this (sci-fi mixed with horror and gore) and I honestly expected her to fall asleep. She was hyped at the end asking if we should stay for a post credit scene.

That's cause it's not a sci-fi/ horror movie. Its a Disney/ kids movie. And when you look at it in that way its enjoyable and you can dismiss all the corniness, tone, jokes, and plot holes. The predator teams up with lilo and stitch and a pair of android legs to fight 100s of androids that are all of a sudden storm trooper jobber status. You cant compare or look at this in the same way as the original predator movies.

There isn't one but the mid-credit scene at the end where he says his mother made me damn near jump out my seat.

OG Dark Horse comic fans already know. She's coming. Someone also had a theory..
What if the ship that's approaching isn't his mother but the same one from the end of Killer Of Killers with Torres and Kenji running from the king Predator...They could be forming their own clan with Dek, Thia, and the Kalisk

When i saw the ship thats what i originally thought cause didnt they say lets head to the homeworld? Either way it was a fire set up like nah homie u gotta defend that crown on day 1

I can. I did. I will.

Just as I look at Alien and Aliens in a complimentary way: Two movies that share the same universe, creatures and motivations (obtain and secure the bio weapon) but are entirely different genres and tones. Giving capable directors a crack at franchises should result in different takes on the subject as long as they don’t stray too far from the source material.

You see it as a Disney film, but this type of film was huge in the 80s and 90s. A quest film where the main character picks up sidekicks along the way.

Big Trouble In Little China
The Golden Child
Conan the Destroyer
Willow
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Star Wars
Terminator 2
etc…

I see it as a tried and true formula.

Its not the 80's or the 90's. It's 2025 and this movie is cheesier and cornier than all the old movies you mentioned. The tone difference in this film versus the original films is as stark in contrast as the tone difference between snyderverse superman and james gunns superman. Nobody would say those 2 movies are remotely the same.

Movie might open to 40Ms this weekend.
:blessed:
I know many of us don’t care about the box office, but it matters to get more movies like this. A financially successful movie makes it more likely to get a sequel.
:ehh:
I think I saw this is a 100M dollar movie though. Technically to “break even” it has to gross 150M. Hopefully the movie has legs. I think the word of mouth will get the movie to 100M+.

That type of story predates the 80s and 90s films I referenced, but I wanted to mention films most people have seen or know about. It was also successfully used in literature: The Hobbit (1937), The Wizard of Oz (1900), The Odyssey (8th Century), The Story of Jesus Christ/Bible, etc.

Call it cheesy, but it works and all the novels above were eventually made into successful films. If you have a smarty arty reply to this, you got it fam. I’m not trying to argue with you. Sometimes it’s better to admit you’re wrong than waste time trying to prove a point. Most people like the movie. Maybe they’re all wrong and you’re right?

What people like is irrelevant when we are talking about quality. Most people voted for trump so most people are indeed dumb. Most people like fast food but that doesn't mean McDonalds is better than a Michelin star restaurant.

I didnt say I didnt like it. I said as a Disney style kids movie it works. And because of that it doesn't require much of a critique or review. Things like the synthetic android cracking jokes and cheezy dialog as comedic relief can be overlooked. The synthetic is like the donkey in shrek, the annoying comedic side kick. Those are things done in kids movies.

Close enough.

I honestly thought he was black when I posted that, with a name like Demetrius, but as I looked at his IG I discovered he’s an Islander breh.

Im not rushing to claim him as black. I wish him the best in his career though
