Whatever world you live in where LA is not considered a global city, isn't reality...
Quite the contrary. As the worlds premier superpower. The u.s second largest city has a cemented place on the global stage. And always in the top ten rankings
But LA needs to watch out to be supplanted by Chicago than it would ever surpass NYC
You're a smart brother and a good poster, so I'm sure that with the caveat that the oncoming rankings are all viewed thru a Western prism (all Western publications), here is how these cities stack up:
GaWC - The World According to GaWC 2020 (based in England)
1 London
2 New York
8 Paris
9 Tokyo
11 Los Angeles
Read @Kearney: A question of talent: how human capital will determine the next global leaders (based in Chicago)
1 New York
2 London
3 Paris
4 Tokyo
7 Los Angeles
Global City Lab Releases '2019 Global Top 500 Cities' (based in New York)
1 New York
2 London
3 Tokyo
4 Paris
5 Los Angeles
Like previously stated.n LA is a world class city. But you are comparing it to a city that tops world global city indexes. The preference argument is in question. But as far as where the two stand is not, on a global level
And among many more Western lists, Los Angeles is consistently listed as a Top 10 world city, meaning, these Western organizations that publish these studies, often believe that there are NOT 10 greater cities in the world than LA...
Agreed. And I give LA its props for being the youngest city on the list to achieve this
We don't live in the East nor speak Eastern languages, so I'd halt on assuming they view our cities with equivalent esteem as we do, as its extremely American and Western in general, to assume we have the greatest and best of everything...
By most palpable measurements, as what equates to a world/global city- NYC beats eastern cities
@Tommy Knocks and others here who have lived out East, I'd love to hear their breakdown on how Easterners look at Western and specifically American cities...
As a new yorker- its basically LA than San Fran than diego. Somewere there's las vegas, portland and seatle.
Thats the truth of it
As a new yorker with our 5 borough system... I find the Bay area dynamic to be similar and interesting
As it is, while these think tanks are studying a number of factors that are unimportant to people in the real world, your claim that there is no competition between NY and LA is false.
There is comp insofar that we are the number 1 and 2 cities in America. But la doesn't make nyc sweat as much as hong kong,London, tokyo and paris
The performing arts of all kinds, fashion, media and its funnel industries, all of these things and more are draws both cities have to people the world over. LA may not be as diverse as NY, but name a city more diverse than LA, anywhere else in the world, besides NY...
LONDON
You're trying to paint LA as a regional podunk when it is obviously and clearly accepted as one of the most popular and iconic cities on the planet. And more to the point of the thread, the average
American views the two cities about 50/50. You can say "people are only voting LA because of ____", and I could say most people in here have said they are only voting NY because it has more black people, but does it matter? People have preferences based on whats important to them, I'm not sure why you're minimizing people's preference for LA just because they aren't reasons you'd choose LA...
LA is closer to the rest of Americana than NYC. New york is more polarizing in its element as a city than la is. LA is way more easier to digest than NYC is. The south and the midwest would relate more to an La than a nyc.
